What are sure fire signs that your tps sensor is going out? I seem to have a problem where after my engine is warm, then I stop the engine for 5 minutes or more, the engine fires up at less than normal idle RPM's, I lose perhaps 2-3 hundred RPM. To get her back to normal I have to stomp the throttle a few time then it'l idle normally. This is a sporadic problem, never happens when I am running. (and yes I've done the throttle body cleaning and ran the techron and redline fuel injetor cleaner....). Where is the TPS anyways?(check my sig for my rig stats)

The tps is on the drivers side of the throttle body. It is a "flat lightbulb" shaped component that is about 2-3" long. One test to see if it is functioning properly is to insert a jumper wire (speaker wire, paper-clip, etc.) between the Te1 and E1 termials in the little grey "diagnosis" box. If the engine retards at all you've passed the test. This is at least how it works on a 22re. Hope it helps. Good luck.
Another though: I don't know, but your problem may be your thermostat. When I flushed my coolant, I think I may have done something to it, so it idled at varying speeds. I think the temperature wasn't registering right. I reset the computer and it fixed itself in a couple days. Just another thought.

good info-I did put a new thermastat a while ago right around when it started to do this. It was the cheap one too that didn't have the toggle valve like my stock one, I didn't think this would make a difference but I think I will go to toyota and get a new one...

You can easily test the TPS with an OHM meter. I doubt that is your problem.

Try changing your Plugs/wires/distributor cap and rotor. Make sure the timing is dead on.

If that doesn't fix it - use your ohm meter to start testing the injectors.

You might also change the fuel filter.

Wait - I noticed you've modified your air box... Could you have screwed up the Air Temperature Sensor?? Hmmm..

nah, not the air box, doing it waaaay before the mod, changed fuel filter about 40k ago, new plugs about month ago--(again was doing rpm thing before)--but perhaps the wires. The cap and rotor are good but my wires are beat to @#$%! I kinda yanked the ends off last time I put the plugs in, but I was able to clamp them back together, I know others out there have done this...any recomendations for new wires?
