Toyotas Getting Uglier?
Well this is my first thread - but I just wanted to get an idea here. I'm under the opinion that Toyotas keep getting uglier as the years go on. It seems to be unfortunate but true. Take the 4runner for instance. The 1st gen was a sweet looking truck, 2nd gens are just as sweet looking, 3rd gens are nice but just not as appealing as the 2nd gens -THEN we have the 4th gen -oh man; talk about a beastly disgrace. It looks like an oversized Hyundai or something with all the plastic moldings... Feel free to imagine other models as well. Clearly the 95-97 Tacos were better looking then the next gen - then the 05 appears and looks like a mutant turtle or something - what gives? :pat:

theyre appealing to market trends.
theyre very capable, reliable vehicles. i used to dislike the 4th gens (especially the plastic trim molding ones), but they have since grown on me, especially when i see what they can do thanks to some people here.

Most production cars are getting uglier. I have a hard time with the computer designed to low drag coefficient model as it really takes the beauty and creativity away from designs in general. Now, that said, There are some things I like about the 4th gens and some I don't...I can guarantee in the first week in the Great Karoo of South Africa all of that plastic trim (crap) comes off (and not by design of the owner either)!

I am not commenting on the reliability or the performance - The new Runner and Tacos are probably more reliable than ever and with the right mods just as (or close to) as capable. I just think that the styling is going downhill - not just with yotas but trucks overall (old Chevy pickup vs the new design) . Why is it that when a new design comes out they have to put more rounded edges everywhere. Trucks arent meant to look Bubbly - sharp angles belong, not sports cae curves - but this is just my opinion - I might have been overly harsh on the new designs but they are just softer looking.

I DETEST the look of the new fords - those pickups are flamboyantly gay. The Chevy's lines look much better to me as they have a "mean" look to them. Dodge also has that ford/retard look about them too....
However for the 99% of us that use our yota's on road, that cladding is a godsend. I wish my 2nd gen had some - she'd have a LOT less dents...

Personally I think the new Runners and Tacos look pretty cool; not really any better or worse than the older ones. Although the plastic on the Runners only looks good if it's the same color as the body. If it's different, it looks like a Pontiac Asstek (fugly IMHO).

While the looks in some people opinions get worse the technology does get better. I would take a 3rd gen over a 1st gen anyday but I do like all Toyota trucks including the new ones.

I didnt like the 4th Gen 4Runners at first, but they have definitely grown on me. Especially when you see one like this one: Clicky
As far as the Taco's go, maybe that one will have to grow on me too...

I can do without the cladding...at least along the sides. The wheel well trim is cool though.
If you look at just about any car, though, you'll see as they evolve, they bloat. Certainly true of the Runner. My Dad's 4th gen is like a luxury compared to my 92 SR5. I don't know I'd say ugly, but definitely bulkier and with too much plastic ˟˟˟˟e on them. No offense to any of the good people with 4th and 5th gens...and whatever generations there are that I don't know about...9th, 10th....whatever.
EDIT-cuz I'm a dumbass....
