After changing my Rear Diff oil, my T-case oil, and front diff oil, I was upset to see the that front diff drain and fill plugs required hex bits. Not just any hex bits, but DIFFERENT SIZED hex bits. And not just that. one of the sizes is 10mm, which is the biggest size that comes in most standard sets. The next size is 12mm which you can't even find at most hardware stores, (but luckily i found it at autozone) so I had to buy TWO whole sets, because nobody sells them individually.

The worst part is that these are about the only hex nuts I have seen on the entire truck, and i'm pretty familiar with it. Why did they feel the need to throw those in there, just to make maintenence that much more difficult???

And why can't everyone just decide on either STANDARD or METRIC freaking units?? GRRRRRR

I bought the 12mm from Snap-On. $25 freaking dollars. I feel you pain man.

I don't see a reason to have two different sizes, i may be wrong, but why would they have two different sizes on the 4runners and on Tacoma's have them the same size, when they both use the same diff (Im speculating that all taco's have the same size because mine does, if Im wrong, some one set me straight)

I bought mine at Sears individually. My fill and drain plugs are both 10mm. There is a 12mm hex that is used on the rear diff. mount.

Order new Hex nut from Toyota. Tell them you want the nut for the axle that you have the tool for. It's cost about 3-4 bucks.
Hex nut is better cause it low profile and won't walk out as much when you on the trail.
