Toyota Parts = Total Rip off

I called the local Toyota garage for a price for a switch for my elec mirrors on Friday cause water got into it and its rusted and i was quoted 180 euro, thats about $190. This is f#@*ing insane. How can they justify charging that sort of price for a piece of plastic and a bit of circuit board. Just thought i'd vent my anger. Each time i call them up i get more and more pissed off with them. The last time is called they quoted me 1700 euro for an alternator and vacuum pump. Napalm them, thats what i say!

Well Delboy. Thats nothing unusual. I owned a 1984 toyota xtra cab diesel 4x4. The rubber tranny mount rotted and fell apart. Couldnt find one anywhere. I looked for about a month then gave up because toyota wanted $350 for it. No way in hell i would pay that for a metal and rubber bracket with a bolt through it. i ended up making my own until i found one at a reasonable price.. well.. I did finally find one through Canadian Tire.... COST??? 31 dollars.

I never deal with toyota Ever unless i absolutely have to.

Suggestion?? autowreckers.

But there are trade offs.. Like a stock exhaust system fo my 92 V6.. $117.00 list! or the Spark plug wires for about $50.00 with all new wire looms, and pre assembled in order and routing.. Yes, some parts are stupid money, and I have no idea how they price it, but sometimes they are not bad..

If you're referring to Texas Toyota in Dallas, you are sadly mistaken. They wanted $310 for a new MUFFLER, as in OEM stock MUFFLER. They also are screwing me around with my Supercharger. Thats another post though. I just emailed yotayard about my muffler. I'll let you know if they come through.

I haven't found anyone who sells Toyota parts cheaper than Jay Marks. They are usually 30-40% cheaper than my local dealers.

Thanks a million for your help guys!
Even if it's just a moan or a real problem you fella's are the best. You always come through with some help or advice or just empathy. Either way it makes people feel better! Will probably try a wreckers first. Have a feeling the same switch is probably used on a lot of Toyota vehicles around the same time!

This kind of thing is exactly why junkyards exist and why I visit one at least once a month, even if I don't need anything.

Did they quote you for a 92 V-6 exhaust?? I don't think so.. Unless you are confusing labor to install the system as well.. The exhaust is $117 for the exhaust system from the cat back.. all welded togather, and all hanger rods welded to pipe.. If you brought it to a dealer to install a system that is held on with 2 bolst ans is all one piece, that is just sad...

Thankyou TOYOTA for giving me the drive to fix things myself and not pay you b@#*@£$ extortionate amounts of money. I took the switch apart this evening and the circuit board was slightly corroded from rain water or spilt coffee, so i sanded the connections down with 600 grit sandpaper. Put it back together. It now works perfectly and i saved 170 euro!

Beauty!! Dealers should only be used as a last resort if you want to have any cash to play with. Congrats on a sucessful and cheap fix.
