I'm doing alot more towing and I want more highway towing power. I don't need it to be a drag car. Looking for power in the 2500-3000 rpm range.

I'm thinking: Jet chip or SC or Squires turbo or something else?

Opinions?

What is best for that highway towing power?

From what I've read about your three choices the TRD SC is the most reliable choice.

I beleive Gadget talks about the Jet chip in his website and noted being unimpressed w/ it.

Do a search on "STS Turbo" (I would link the thread for you but there's a few) and you'll get all the opinions you can handle on those. Turbo savvy people (I'm not turbo savvy) mostly seam to disagree with the setup and reliabilty of the STS kits.

The TRD SC in my opinion. Only if you are going to also do the needed fuel mods though.

Can the SC take the cranking miles for 14 hours a day down the highway? I guess I was thinking a turbo may be a better choice since semis run turbos and run long days pulling a load.

I know this has been asked before but with all of the needed mods, what would the SC total cost be?

What are you towing that you need more power? I tow with mine all the time an I am rarely lacking power. I guess that jeep in your signature is alot of weight for a 4Runner. Also how many miles do you have on your truck? A supercharger or turbo puts alot of strain on a motor, especially one with more miles. Might want to look into some intake mods combined with headers to get some more power.

I don't tow the Jeep, that was just once to the shop. I dave a 16' flatbed (700#), 6x6 Polaris Ranger (1500#), and a ATV Trailer (600#). It does fine on the flats but when you start going thru the mountains and battle 60 mph headwinds, like on my last trip, I had a hard time going 45-50 mph. My 4runner has 166,000 miles on it but I have maintained it well. It uses zero oil.

I think your asking for trouble putting a supercharger or a turbo on a motor with that many miles.

I have 145k miles on my runner, and I have just started to retire it from towing (towing ~1k lbs every weekend since 110k miles). I never had a problem with power, but I don't think that the tranny will take too much more abuse. One of the things I noticed was that when I was merging onto the highway, and it was time to shift into OD, it would not shift cleanly. It would almost come out of gear, rev for a second, and slip into OD.
