Towing

Is there anything I can do to my 94 V6 4Runner to safely tow 5000lbs of tralier weight.

I was thinking of HD springs and Airbags but is there anything else that would help

BTW let me know if this is just totally impractical.

Thanks
Scott

5000 LBS is pretty heavy to tow with a 3.0L. Stoping is another issue if you don't have trailer brakes. I pull a 2000Lb dual axle trailer with 4000Lbs on it daily with one of my Dumptrucks K3500 . One day I had to use my toy to move it 10 miles and that was enuf.
Are you planning on a few short trips, or long hauls? Auto(cooling problems) or manual?

I've towed a 5k+ lb trailer a few times with my 3.0. It wasn't fun but I was able to maintain the speed limit, keep in mind I have quite a few engine mods. I wasn't using trailer brakes and quite honestly stopping wasn't an issue for me (although trailer brakes would have been safer). HD springs are also a good idea. A tranny cooler certainly wouldn't hurt.

I am looking at towing a double axle travel trailer with brakes. The truck is automatic....I also had to town the work trailer that is a 16 ft 2000lbs trailer with probably 3000-4000 lbs of scaffold down the road and it actually did it. Normally I use a Ford F-250 diesel to tow that trailer.

I can't imagine even trying to tow my sea doo speedster jet boat with my 3.0, it won't go anywhere now so I am not even gonna try to tow with it! Now my 3.4 '00 4 runner on the other hand, it has no problem doing it...
