Towed 5000lbs in my 03 today

Well, I pulled my boat out of the water today and was the first time towing in my 03 v8 sport. All I have to say is that it did an amazing job. I know my boat weighs around 3900 dry. Figure the dual axle trailer is another 1000 or so. I borrowed my cousins 03 Jeep Cherokee Sport HO (the 265hp version) to put it in at the beginning of the season because the tranny was going in my Tahoe. It was awful with the Jeep. Back end was being pulled all over the highway and the new 5speed Jeep tranny didn't seem happy. None of these problems with the 4runner. I was pretty amazed because I was ready for it to be like the jeep. All and All, the 4runner tows really well.

You want fun? Try towing up around 8,000lbs.... That gets kinda freaky. I used my dad's 2000 Tundra to tow my truck home on a trailer. The trailer was a Galvanized heavy duty truck trailer. It ALONE weighed 3,000. The guys at U-Haul couldn't express enough, how carefull I had to be.

To tow or not to tow

You tow with your vehicle more weight than it is rated for and have an accident, your insurance will not pay. Seems like an easy decision to me.

well a lot of those old f150s had 351w motors in them, some had them up to 460cid

i tow my little boat around town with my pickup, it's a 13' smokercraft with an easy loader trailer. little heavier than most small boats but my truck seems to handle it pretty well...it'll do better once i get a new motor though

They might have big engines but it's scary watching the things steer from the rear especially when your next to it
