TOTALED! - Part Out Question?

So my 4Runner is totaled... Happened the 11th of this month. Mechanically its fine besides the airbox and fan shroud being cracked. The insurance company totaled it due to the cost of the bodywork to repair the engine bay. I'm being offered $900 from a salvage company for it and I'm wondering if it would be worth the time and effort to do a part out of it. How much money would I be able to get out of a part out?

Some pics...

Part it out you can get $900 or more just for the motor, if you do part it out you should make two three times what they are offering and on that note I could use the blinker plug ends that go into the blinker housing itself to hold the bulb in place

First off, my condolences. So sorry to hear that. I'd be uber bummed if this happened to me. Recently told a co-worker (who has a '99 runner) that were i to lose this runner, i'd go right out and buy another 3rd gen, asap. she agreed. love 'em too much!

like the other posters have said, $900 is what you'll get for the motor.
the *key* questions are:
1. do you have the space to house a non-operable vehicle?
2. do you have the patience to go through the BS you'll obviously receive ("i'll give you $10 for transmission", etc...)?
3. is there a covenant in your locale that prohibits obvious non-operable vehicles from being seen from the street?
4. do you want to make some $$$ to dump into your new rig? (say yes...)

good luck. i'll come and get some stuff if you decide to part it yourself. for instance, the locker...dibs!

The engine and tranny to a parts place is worth about a grand each at least. Probably more. The two axles around 5-700 each. Tires and wheels- a few bucks. Bottom line, negotiate back with the company. They will be selling parts off your truck for years. I would tell them 2k and stick to it and move on.

Unless the time in your life is worth very little, I wouldn't screw with it. Besides, everyone only wants the engine, tranny, t case and axles. Besides that, you don't want to become a junk yard.

Yeah I've already began my search for a new 3rd gen, preferably a limited, 98 or older. I've got more than enough room to leave it somewhere until it gets stripped down

Save as many clips as pos. and finder flare if pos. take that little tin finder off of the little tin inter fender and save as many clips as pos remove the bumper and grill and little parts that hold little plastic parts take pictures of all there on that inter finder and mark the wire plugs to what they go to lift out the core make sure you catch all the coolant try not to brake the a/c lines lay as much of the wires and lines back over the engine and tie them make sure pos. post on battery is unhooked Buy a portapower from tool supply and find some 2x6 blocks of wood small 6'' to 12'' long find a spot where it wont bend firewall to much or find a way to come off the frame look for the place where it seems to be the middle of the damage and push most of the damage out look for the next spot and push it get more damage out if u get most out look to see if u can get small body hammer and dolly more of the damage out You Don't have anything to loose and a nice car to gain
