TJM bumpers, 13, 15, or 17?

Well, I have no idea what the difference is between the 17 and the 13 because they look the same i think. I know the 15 is a LOT cheaper and that's probably what I'll get.

Last night after a friend had to use a chain to help me get up a steep hill, the accidently rolled back and smashed my bumper, grill, and one headlight. I figure it will be cheaper to just buy an aftermarket bumper, bang out the grill, and pull a headlight from the junkyard.

4by4connection.com has the TJM 15 for under 400 bucks and shipping is only 135. What do you think? Oh yeah, it must be able to mount a winch.

Sunday,

Personally I like the T15 the best b/c its lighter and cheaper. Also, I'm not in love w/ the big giant "hoops" on the 17s.

Wait, I thought the T17 was the one without hoops.

Damn, now I'm confused. What do you mean by "hoops"?? Someone should just post some pictures.

I know that the 15 doesn't have the things (hoops perhaps?) that go around the headlights. I thought both the 13 and the 17 did have those though. Am I wrong? And can either of them mount winches?

I have the TJM T-17 and its just the ordinary one. Cost me 450 shipped to my work from www.4x4connection.com. I love it, but if you wanna spend more then go for the T-15 or 13. The T-15 has big round hoops and the T-13 is almost like a built in grille guard imo.

Interesting because at 4by4connection they have the t-15 on sale for under 400 bucks and the t-17 is like 800 or something. The picture of the t-15 also doesn't show how it goes around the headlights.

Does anyone know the tjm website?

Ironic -- I just got my T-15 installed this afternoon. Bought it from 4x4Connection at their current sale price. BBQ, you have your pricing/products reversed. The T-17 is the one that is a simple bumper with no grill guard and is running for about $380. The T-13 is no longer made for the 2nd generation 4Runners (or so they told me -- that was my first choice), so I had to go with the T-15 for the same price.

The guys at 4x4 Connection were nice people, but be vigilant with your follow-up if you order from them. When I originally ordered the T-13 I waited two weeks before contacting them to check on it's shipping status. It wasn't until then that they realized their error (part unavailable) and hooked me up with the T-15.

One problem after the install -- the corner trim pieces didn't come with the parts they shipped. Those of you who have the T-15 or other TJM bumpers, was this part of your order or did you have to purchase it seperately?

Alright, this thread has prompted me to get the TJM-17....which in my opinion is the best looking one since the TJM-13 isn't available anymore.

My question is, does anyone make a rear bumper for the 2nd generation 4Runner. I feel like my Runner will look naked with a custom front and stock rear.

slight thread jack. does anyone know of or have the "optional" grille guard for the TJM-17? since i only got 4 bangers, i will prob opt for the smaller-mass bumper. but i would like the idea of putting the grille guard (kind of like a riser bar, seen em on the 4x4Connection spec link for this product). anyone know about this option? and cost?

or maybe i need to fab up some removable bars..?

FWIW, here's what I'm talking about with the missing trim extensions (or whatever the correct terminology is that I could use to describe them when calling 4x4Connection tomorrow).

Notice the difference between mine and the one in the photo posted by SkyRat above.

Ok, yeah, I must have had the prices wrong. Woops! ANyway.... so, can either the 15 or the 17 mount a winch? I really like the look of the 15 better, but do you think it's worth the extra dough? Would you pay it? I don't know if I want to spend that much money!

Yes most TJM bull bars can mount a winch but you are limited to a low profile winch one without a electronics pack on top of it like the warn m8000 m9000 or a milemarker 8-9000lb winch and you can only put upto a 9,000lb winch in it but for a light truck that's fine.
I like my TJM T-17 but I like the bars on the T-15 my buddy has a TJM T-13 on his Nissan he got it from some place off ebay for cheap.
Here's what a TJM T-13 looks like at least on a nissan it maybe a little different but similar on a toyota:

Here's what a TJM T-17 looks like on my 2nd gen

In both pics the winch mount is not shown because our plates are mounted on the bumper.

Here's where the winch roller fairlead or hawse feed would mount the winch goes inside the bumper.

The pic link doesn't work for us because you were logged on to Webshots when you did the copy and paste. Log off first, do a search to find your own pic, then copy and paste the URL.

Are you talking about the rubber trim between the main bumper and the bolt-on wings? I have a couple of them some where if you can't get any. I welded my wings on and repainted my T-17, See http://community.webshots.com/photo/...87536658rVHJHT

Mt. Goat - you did exactly what I've been thinking about doing. Buy a t-17 then weld on a hoop or hoops for grill protection. Sort of a custom t-17 / t-15 hybrid. I didn't know anyone else had done this yet. Nice job - I always like custom jobs.

Sorry about the link. What a PITA. The current link should take you there. The anonymizer in the FAQ didn't work for me to be able to directly link the photo top the post. Any other suggestions on how to display Webshots photos directly in a post? Or recommendations for other quick, easy, free hosting of photos?
