Tires for 3rd Gen....
I'm sure this has been covered to death but I'm a fan of digging up the dead. What is the biggest tire that can fit on a 3rd gen with no lift and no rubbing?

Tencast,
I posted (my first) a similar question today. Most folks here agree that both a 265/75 (versus the stock 265/70) and a 275/70 will fit without lift and will not rub. To step up to a 285/75 requires about 2" of lift (either suspension, body or combination of both).
I plan to fit 285/75's on my '96 4Runner, so I am now learning everything I can about suspension lift kits (I've decided not to go with spacers as my suspension has 170,000 miles on it and will certainly benefit from new shocks and springs to begin with).

Its not so much of a preferance as it is a necessity...if you tow a lot then you may want to go with a larger load limit. I have BFG A/T's that are Load Rating C (2250lbs/tire at 50psi)...thats PLENTY as the total comes out to about twice as much as my truck weighs, no problem there. As long as the total weight capactity comes out a good bit higher than the weight of your truck/possible cargo then you should be fine.
