hey guys,
well i just need a little help knowing what size tires will fit my 96 4runner. right know i have 265/75r16's but i am going to go for some 18 inch wheels. i like the look of the bigger wheels but 20's are a little too big for a 4runner. i decided i was going to go with 18's. i have been checking up on the sizes of tires for 18's.
stock
size width height
265/75r16 10.4in 31.62in

for 18's need to know which ones will fit.
275/60r18 10.8in 30.7in
275/65r18 10.8in 32.05in
285/60r18 11.2in 31.44in

i dont want big gaps in the wheel wells. the 32.05 and 31.44 look good but r they too wide? help me out guys.

the stock tire size is 265 70 16, not 75. As far as your question, I'd say put your money towards some men's tires and not big wheels, but whatever floats your boat.

well i do really like the lifted with big tire 4runners but i dont go 4wheelin enought to do all of that to my car. and if you havent seen, they have been combining the big wheels and tires lately on the 4 wheelin trucks. so my 18's with the biggest possible tires isnt a dumb idea. i know the stock size isnt what i posted but that is what i have on it. anyways thanks but no thanks for the "help."

The BFG 275/65/18 is 10.7 and 31.9 so not much bigger than what you have now.

The standard 265/70/16 is 10.6 wide

SO you should have no prob, as the tires you have now is already 31.6 in diameter.

And you should get some good trail traction with these

thanks for the information. just one more question. do you think the 285/60r18's would fit ok. i know the hieght will be ok but i am not sure about the comination of the height and width? help quick?

It might but not sure. You'd lose some height but would gain the width. I'd say you'd prob rub abit. But don't take my word as I dunno. Just taking a logical guess. Try the tire shop and see what they can do. They can always test fit one and see.

If it works, "sold" if not. o well...

i cheacked the ratings on the rugged trails and they have pretty bad ratings. is this a mistake? i am going to college in idaho and drive in the snow lots. just wondering if anyone knows how they perform?

also the yokohama avs s/t are awesome street tires and do good in wet weather but does anyone know how the snow traction is? probably not since this is a 4x4 site. anyways dont diss me i love the big trucks. ill have one someday.

What you are trying to do is called "Plus Sizing". ANY good tire/wheel shop can help you with this. Discount Tires has an online Plus Size configurator. Choose tires, pick your Metro area, punch in your vehicle's year and so forth, then find the find the Plus Sizes you are interested in.

Yep, Galen. Exactly what I was going to suggest. The Discount Tire thing works well, even though I wouldn't put 18" rims on a 4runner. You need some tire squish in there, man! But, to each his own :-) I won't dis it.

does anyone know about the BfGoodrich rugged trail's? i read some reviews on them and they dont sound too good, but you know how those stupid ratings can be? thanks for the help.

kinda off toipic but im supposed to pick up some tires and wheels this weekend. they are 33x12.5x15 on black rock crawlers. i have a 3 inch lift , so will this fit on my taco?

I'm not sure but it shoulds like it might not fit. I know a 3" lift will fit a 32x11.5 but I dunno if it'll fit the 33x12.5. I'd ask one of the ttora members and see what they say since they're the taco experts

Here's an ignorant quetion. I'm thinking of doing a lift. Don't know, either 2" or 3". Cornbred (cornfed?) seems the way to go. But would I need to go bigger with the wheels? The tires would be more, but could I still use the 16" wheels or would that look dumb?

If you go w/ the cornfed lift, you can keep your stock 16" wheels and just upgrade the tires.
you can easily go 265.75.16 or if you want, try the 285's but expect some trimming.

The things I have heard about them have not been good. Mostly poor wet/snow traction. I think you can get Nitto Terra Grapplers some of the sizes you are considering, give those a good look, they are good tires. Oh, yeah, they should be on the Discount Tires website, too...

I posted about this a while back, the Rugged Trail thing, don't get em...I have heard nothing but bad things about them, on and off-road.

I would go with the Revo's if you can find them in your size...
