tire rub
I have a '98 limited 4runner w/265-75-16 BFG all terrains and a 1" RB body lift. To start off the drive side wheel rubs the frame at full driver side turning on the street. I went off roading this weekend and the driver side rubs like crazy on the flare closest to the drivers door. But this is only on the driver side and none on the passenger side. I was in a minor accident on that side but was fixed and realigned.
Why would the driver side only rub and how can I get the tire farther away from the flare?

I too am experiencing a similar problem. Mine rubs on the driver side framerail only. The pass side isn't even close. What's up with that? I don't think mine has been in an accident, the carfax was clean when I bought it. I am running enough lift to clear my 35's and my backspacing is 4.5 inches. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

What if the steering wheel is not totally centered on the rack? Would that cause a rubbing problem on the fender or frame on one side but not the other? I have been all over this front end, and this is all I can figure. I will be taking my runner in for an alignment check on friday, I will ask the techs what they think.

i had the same problem with mine on 34 tsls with 4inches. then i added another 2 inches and 35s and it went away. extra lift never hurts. and i don't know how true this is but i was told that the reason the driver side rubs more is that Toyota's are naturally heavier on the driver side. im not exactly sure why that would be either but thats what i was told. so i guess yotas are lop sided! lol

CV joint? How would that affect steering since it has nothing to do with steering?
Almost certainly your steering stop on the DS has gotten slightly bend or damaged. Thus making it possible to turn slightly farther driver than pass. I had this problem, but on the pass side.
Rubbing i can't help you with. You either need to cut out more or do a body lift.

I know weight has nothing to do with it, well at least not driver weight because this is my wifes 4Runner and she only weighs (EDIT) 115 lbs. If she knew I put her weight as 155 she would kill me
Steeering stops now I never thought of that. Maybe because I don't know what they are but I'm pretty savvy and I figured it out.

sdstud212001, the steering stop is a little nub on the knuckle, and a plate on the a-arm, usually with a rubber/plastic cap, should be dirty, except for the part that touches, which will be very clean. On early IFS, it is the part circled in yellow in the pic below
On a third gen, it is also on the back, but looks a bit different. Sorry I couldn't find a pic of one on the truck, if someone wants to take a picture of the back side of their lower a-arm on a third gen, i will point it out. However, the pic below is of a third gen knuckle/spindle assy, and the steering stop is the large tab on the lower side on the left.

How would I be able to tell if the control arms are bent short of pulling them and matching them to another one?
