15's vs 16s

I think you should go with the bigger wheels. If you go big wheels you can go with bigger tires esp. if you lift the rig. i have 35's sitting on 15 inch rims. but wish i had 16s!

Those tires are basically the same size.
If you do intend to go with a taller tire, check the tire size range of each rim size in the tire you plan to go with.
More often, the 15" actually has more sizes available, but the 16" is getting more now.
Have a look at Tirerack and see what the equivlent P-metric tire sizes are in LT sizing.
Look for their truck fitment chart.
Hope this helps,
Todd

Never heard that before, that's not right.

Correct.

Ever look for a larger tire for a 17" wheel?
VERY far and few between.
Tallest are only about 32" tall.
Go to a 18" or taller wheel, and you're looking at low profile tires only (about 30" tall max).
Stick with 15" or 16", whatever your truck came with.
It'll save you money by not having to buy new wheels

Just so you know,
There is no difference in total height between 35x12.5x15 and 35x12.5x16.
Both are 35" tall. The only difference is the rim size it will fit.
Where the rim size makes a difference is with the P-metric sizing (265/75/16 vs 265/75/15).
The 265/75/15 is smaller than the 265/75/16 by 1"

If you have 15's then a big plus along with what Todd said is that 15" tires are cheaper than 16"er's.

The way I saw it was if you have 16 inch rims on 35 inch tires, compared to 15 inch rims on 35 inch tires you would be an inch higher. Are 16 inch rims not an inch bigger than 15 inch rims? I was never talking about going to 17 inch rims as someone assumed. That is just stupid unless your keeping your 4Runner looking near factory height. I am not into the factory look. I am all about height.

When they say a 35" tire, they mean 35" in diameter and/or height. This doesn't change when the wheel size changes. The sidewall height changes. Sidewall is shorter on a 16" wheel/tire combo than a 15" wheel/tire combo of the same overall diameter.

BTW, the new BFG Krawler comes in a 37"diameter on a 17" wheel. There are more and more 17" fitments popping up for 17's. Big bucks through.

my toy comes stock with 16" rims already with 265/70/16.
I had my eyes set on 285/75/16 which equals to size 33's.
But no way those will fit on my 2.5" lifted truck.

with my stock rims, best size i can probably fit are 265/75/16.

Tires are definitely cheaper with a 15" wheel. Thats why i considered purchasing some 15" wheels and 32's but would like to keep the height/lifted look on my truck.

Conclusion:

If i go with 16" wheel with 265/75/16, truck will be slightly taller.

If i go with 15" wheel with 32/10.5/15, truck will be same height as now but with wider tires.

looks like i'll just have to decide.

Do you wheel much? there's a guy at my work with a taco and 285/75 or maybe even 305's, I'll have to check tomorrow. of course it's not a 4x4 and I can tell the guy did it just for looks, the big tires and his 2" performance products spacer lift. It looks kind of silly though with such big tires on it and only that much lift. anyway his don't look like they rub, but then again I got a buddy with a 98 taco 4x4 and the same lift I have but with OME leafs in the rear and he only got the ~32x11.5x15 tires and he still rubbed a little until he found the rubbing part and cut it off.

NO NO NO NO NO NO!

The tires are the same size my man. Just the wheel size would be different. This is my first post so I'll tell you guys what I've got and post some pics later on.

2002 Taco TRD with the fabtech/fox coilover lift and add a leaf in the rear. I've got 285/75/r16 BFG Mudders and I rub only when I'm completely cranked to either side on the frame. The lift and tire combo looks, rides, and wheels good, but if you want a little more room for travel I'd run the 265/75/16 combo and use your stock wheels.

I'd personally go with the 265/75/16 for the simple reason that you already have 16" wheels on your truck now.
Do you know if you can fit 15's? They may not because of brake caliper interference.
In any case, both tires you mentioned are almost exactly the same size. Here is how tirerack tells how to calculate tire dimentions.
The 265/75/16 calculates to 31.65" tall and 10.4"wide.
The 32/10.5/15 is generally 31.5" tall and 10.5" wide.

Hope this helps.

Hello Keiser and thank you. I did not see the button until now.

Bud...I hope you are seeing what everyone is telling you know. The only difference would be the wheel size and since you have 16" already leave them and just put different tires on them.

Hey man,

Any rubbing with the 12" wide tires? I was going to go with that size but was worried about rubbing so I went with the 11.2" wide tires. and mine rubbed slightly when I first got them.

what's your backspacing? mine is 4". if yours is bigger than maybe I wouldn't have any rubbing. oh, did you mean it rubs on the OD or the edge/sidewalls? I am assuming you were talking edge/sidewalls since they are a tad smaller OD than the 285/75's and I have no rubbing with that size.
