Tire dilemma...what would you do?

As I posted in this thread about my new OME rear coils, I'm running the smaller stock tire size...225x75x15. Even though the springs have settled a bit, it still looks pretty goofy being up that high with the tires being so small. I'm planning on taking the rig off-roading in late Jan (first time). Besides that, I need to fill in the wheel wells with the added height. Looks goofy...

So, I poked around at a couple salvage yards to see about scoring some tires off a wrecked Runner. Didn't find any. What I did find was a new-ish set of Duelers (not sure which exact model) in the 245x75x15 size off a Pathfinder. My calc's show that it would be an additional 1.2 inches, which really equates to 2.4 inches, if I'm not mistaken. And that equates to about 29.5 inches, not quite the 31's that would be perfect...

So, I can pick these up for a couple hundred bucks. I like this price far better than a new set of BFG's for about 600 bones. May not be as good a tire, but the price sure is compelling.

What do you think? Would these fill in the gaps much more than the stockers?

What would you do?

I would wait to get what I truly want if my economical status agrees.

Think about it, you're looking to get 40K to 50K out either tire, considering that the Duelers are practically new. 40K to 50K, on average equates to about 2 to 3 years, if not more if you don't drive much. In conclusion, you'll have to deal with a tire you're not fully happy with for that amount of time. Perhaps, you can sell and buy what you want later but that is just wasting money and time.

I may be wrong but just something to to think about.

Get what you want now, and be good for a long time.

As I said in the other thread anything less than 31" will look funny with the lift you have on there. 31x10.5x15 is a very common tire size, check with tire dealers to see if they have some used tires if you can not afford new.

Yea, I could get the real deal...I was just hoping to save a few duckets on a slightly used set. I've used tirerack for tires for my sports car, is that generally considered the best way to go for these tires, too? They are huge and weigh a lot. It may make more sense just to get to NTB and get them installed...

What do you guys normally do for tires?

I get mine from Sam's Club or Costco. If Sam's does not stock the size, talk to the boss. As long as they carry that brand, they can get any size. Sam's total was less than Tirerack and that was mounted, balanced, installed.

Well, my dilemma was just solved about 30 minutes ago, actually. Here's how it went down. I pretty much blew off the idea of the 245's and was pretty well resigned to spending ~600 bones on a new set from NTB. I, was going to pull that trigger in a couple of days. But I got home tonight and happened across this thread here:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f11/

A YT'er is selling the wheels/tires off his 96 Taco for 175 bucks. He sent me pics of them and the tires look to be in excellent shape. One wheel had some pits etc., but I'm going to make 'em black anyhow.

So I pick them up tomorrow...yay! I'll post pics once I get them all done and put on the rig. Can't believe how this worked out...I couldn't be happier about it!
