Hey everyone,

I did a search and didn't come up with anything concise. What are some tips you have for finding a trustworthy, and fair priced repair shop / mechanic?

I would assume you are a fool if you don't get several estimates, but what else should you look for and ask specifically?

I hope this thread turns into something that people will find in a search. I'll post my specific repair needs in another thread so I don't send this one off topic.

So chime in and share your methods. I vowed to do all my own repairs after my last visit to a mechanic, but I'm afraid I can't stick to it right now.

No magic recipe, but word-of-mouth is usually a good start. Give them a try with something basic and see where it goes.

As an ex mechanic, the best advice I can give you is to ask around and find a shop you think will do good work for you. Ask to take a quick look around the shop and speak to the tech who will be doing your work. A tech who keeps his work area, tools, and his personal appearance neat (as much as possible considering the enviroment) usually takes pride in their work and will do the best job he or she can.
