I just had my engine rebuilt and it nw has a stage II 272 cam in it.Should I advance timing over stock or leave it?

I set it at 12* and it ran great,I backed it back down to 6* and it still runs great but doesn't have as much get up.Would 12* hurt it?No pinging that I can hear.

Is that timing with the jumper installed or not? 12 degrees BTDC unjumpered (or w/ misadjusted TPS) is equal to 5 deg. BTDC with the jumper installed. So if you are not getting the jumper in, then 12 is stock. I run stock timing on my TRD Level-I cam and it works fine. Some day I want to put on the adjustable cam gear and get the cam timing properly dialed in. Maybe next time I do a timing chain replacement.

Are you seeing the base timing and idle RPM change when the jumper is installed? If not hte TPS may not be adjusted right, in which case it is as if the jumper was never installed:

It changes when it's jumped or not jumped,it just seems to have more power at 12* jumped.

You should observe the timing change when you insert the jumper. That is you have idle speed X and timing Y without the jumper. Then install the jumper and you generally see the idle speed change to A and the timing to B, where B is about 7 degrees less than Y and A is somewhat less than X. Pull the jumper out and the idle/timing should jump back to the original values.
