timing belts
Hi, all i'm new to toyotas and was wondering if the 3.4 engine is a interference motor or not. I've just bought a 96 4-runner with 155k and was thinking about replacing the timing belts before they force me to.

That is pretty high mileage so unless you have dealer documentation it was done recently......better safe then sorry. I don't believe it is an interference motor but I would hate to get standed on the highway because the belt broke.

Its belt...there is only one.
Yep, change it. I got mine done for about $250 at the dealer. Expect to do the water pump at the same time. Might as well go ahead and do the drive belts too (while they have them off).
Expect to drop around $500 or $600 at the dealer for all that.
Ask for a rental car, they should give you one for any work above $300.
