Time lapsed Maintenance opposed to mileage.

I have a 2000 LTD 4WD 4Runner that is just about to hit 30k miles. So I guess it's averaging less than 6k miles a year. (All highway miles, only used for recreation, not short commutes.) I put more miles on my bicycle than I do my 4Runner.

My question is, with such low mileage but time lapsing what kind of maintenance should I do on it? I change the oil 3x per year (full synthetic) or every 4500 miles.

check things that would degrade by a chemical reaction rather than wear and tear.

you already take care of the main one - change the oil every 4 months, the acid byproducts from combustion will degrade oil.

other things, check all rubber parts, tires, hoses, oil seals, things like that.

it may be a good idea to change the coolant - i'm not sure of what kinds of reactions happen there, but it won't hurt to get that changed out.

you probably don't have to worry about strictly wear items, like brakes, or bearings, or stuff like that.

How often are you driving it? I would think once a week and you wouldnt have to do too much special. If it sits months inbetween being driven, the i would do all the stuff mentioned above and look into stabalizing chemicals. I dont know much about it but I used some for a vehicle I left sitting 4 months. One for oil and one for gas, and when I came back there where no problems.

wow! 30k miles on a 2000...you really dont drive ur runner much great that you ride your bike more than that, thats awesome. I would do all of your fluids and put in an air filter and check rubber parts and seals all around.

For stabalazing chemicals if you drive it atleast once every two weeks your not gonna need them. We have a car that stays in storege for 4-5 months a year with no stabalazing chemicals and is always fine as long as we disconnect the battery...

A good idea to invest in would be a battery tender. Just dont forget to unplug it before you pull your runner out of the garage (hahah i almost did that with my dads lexus)

As long as you keep up your frequent oil changes and drive it every once and awhile it should be fine. Dont forget to run your AC every once and awhile also
