Thumping sound
i have recently noticed a loud thumping sound when i hit a sharp bump such as a pot hole etc. It seems to be coming from the drivers side rear door area. It sounds like something heavy hitting the plastic trim. I am thinking that it might be something inside the door or maybe part of the rear seatbelt assembly. Has anyone had a similar problem? There doesn't seem to be much in that area that it could be. Any suggestions, before I start removing trim?

Is it your tire changing equipment flopping around under the rear seat???
You say it could be in the rear seatbelt area. That's my first thought.
As always, including year of manufacture and other vehicle specifics may help.

I have a similar weird thumping sound coming from my right rear wheel well....It seems to accentuated/amplified when there's someone in the back seat. In my ongoing search for this elusive sound.....I found a couple of possible sources you might want to check out....
As matt said.....the rear seatbelt assembly, the bar used to take down your spare tire, and also the rear seatbelt bouncing against the door can all be possible sources.....The other thing I discovered on my 4R was that Les Schwab had replaced the spare tire upside down......
I still have the weird bumping sound.....and no one can figure it out......I've had Les Schwab look and have been under the 4R trying to shake things to see if anything is loose.....no luck....Planning on changing my shocks to Bilsteins...hopefully that fixes it.....(les schwab said that my current les schwab shocks compress just fine....)
