Throttle Position Sensor question 22RE
Right now I've got a '92 truck with the 22RE. It runs and drives great, but has a really rough idle. I've done all the tune-up stuff with no change in idle quality. Check Engine light is not on.
Out of desperation, I began unplugging EFI input sensors to see if that would lead me anywhere. When I unplugged the TPS, the idle got TONS better. Still a slight hitch to it, but the engine is no longer shaking like it was.
So, I feel pretty confident that this means I need a new TPS. But Toyota wants about $100 for the sensor, so I thought I'd ask for confirmation here before ordering a new one.
Any help is appreciated.

Without verifiying the computer code (if there is on) I would not spend $100.00 on a TPS.
Its does sound like a TPS issue but may just need adjustment.
Also check for air leaks at all hose connections and the tube that goes from the airbox to the throttle body.

After you get the intake clean if you are stiil having problems try to adjust the TPS, use the link below for instructions.

I have a brand new TPS I bought for my 97 4runner, but don't need it now. Check engine light came on then went off the day I bought the thing. Don't know if it fits yours, but if you need it and it will fit, let me know. I'll take $50 to get rid of it!

Phoenix your TPS wouldn't fit. Sorry.
When you disconnect the throttle position sensor this what happened;
the ecu sensed the TPS failure and went into limp mode
- limp mode allows the ecu to fudge on managing EFI to allow you to get home
it is meant to be a very short term
- suggest pulling codes out of the ecu even though there's isn't a light
- get a multimeter and begin to test the TPS for faults
- TPS may not be the fault ... Mass air sensor, oxygen sensor, coolant sensor could have a problem.

if your engine is shaking alot and u have a very rough idle, you could possible have bad compression in one of your cylinders ..... i would suggest getting your compression checked, being a 92 you might need a valve adjust depending on the mileage of your car... i just got my valves adjusted and my car sounded like u are describing but now all that is gone....
