I had looked into getting some new wheels for the 4runner, but after looking around I don't know that I want to spend $600++ on new rims when my main goal is to widen the 4runner's track a little and pull the tires out from under the fender.
Anyway, I've looked into possibly getting some 1 or 1.5 inch Marlin wheel spacers/adapters. Just wanted to see what people think of these, and if they have any negative effect of the handling/ride quality. Thanks guys.

they might accelerate stress on the bearings... personally i hate all wheel spacers, but the kind that actually use their own studs are tons better than the slip-on ones.... if you look at the Marlin ones or similar, its like $160 for a set of 4.... I would personally get new rims with proper offset and not needing to worry about torquing 48 lunuts when doing a tire rotation

You've got a point with the 48 lugnuts, but I'm assuming you don't rotate the wheel spacers too so I wouldn't think it would be too big a pain.
My main concern is ride quality and obviously safety, so I was hoping to here some reviews from guys who have run or are currently running some wheel spacers.

I've run spacers for many years. Recently put some 1.5" bolt-on spacers on until I get my wider rear axle installed. They have all worked fine. I like the flexibility spacers give me, I run 2 sets of wheels/tires and need different amounts of spacers for each set. And when running my narrow wheels/tires, I can pull the spacers and run narrow for long road trips or add spacers to push out the track width if I want to take the narrow tires off-road and need the extra stability.

I check the torque on the bolt-on adapter (1.5") whenever I have the wheel off. Nothing has loosened up yet.
