Thinking of selling my '02 4Runner Sport

Hey, everyone. Haven't been here in forever. Moved from Saint Paul to Scottsdale, AZ. Woo hoo. No more cold!

Anyway, been thinking about selling my 02 Sport. This is the first car I ever bought from a dealer with a bank loan, so I have zero experience selling vehicles. Aside from ebay and craigslist, are there any sites worth selling your car on? Places where I won't be contacted by unsavory people looking to rip me off. Any tips I should be made aware of? Should I list the vehicle according to Kelly Blue Book value or something else?

I'm worried no one in a position to buy my 4Runner would be able to secure a loan for an '02. Does anyone have experience with this?

Specs:

The Good:

2002 Toyota 4Runner Sport 4x4 (black)
89,000 miles
Full power
Sunroof
Leather seats
Roof Rack
Tinted windows
Clear title
Trailer hitch (used twice)
No rust

The Bad:
Dent in right rear quarter (parking lot hit and run. grrrrr. )
Missing rear seat headrests (bought it like that... who knows where they ended up)
Cracked 12V rear outlet cover

Other than that, it's been well cared for. Oil changed every 3000 miles. Wash, wax and detailed every 6 months. Just had rear dif and transfer case fluid changed, and radiator and power steering flushed and filled. Has newer Firestone A/Ts (w/less than 20,000 miles). Only two winters in MN. CarFax listed as Southern ILL corporate company vehicle.

It's bone stock other than a TruFlow air filter and tinted front windows. No cutting or wiring for stereos or crazy lights, etc.

While I'm at it I might as well pose the question: Any Yoda Tech members looking for an '02?

Welcome to AZ. I was just in Minneapolis and northern WI. for New Years. Brrrrrrrr.....they can keep that weather

You may try advertising in the Auto Trader. It's popular here in Phx.

Good luck,

Paul

Depends how badly you want to sell it.
If you really want to move it out then list it at trade-in value.

As one form of listing, definitely go w/ Auto Trader. Of the 6 vehicles I've owned, I found them all thru auto trader. Plus, of those 6, I resold 3 of them thru AT too!

Good luck on the sale...even though I hate to see an '02 go.

I had one person interested and I quoted him Blue Book @ $14,000.

I sell cars on the side, and I always use Craigslist... I have sold my last 10 cars to the first buyers....

I haven't ever used Trader, it costs money.

Didn't know Auto Trader costs money, but it makes sense since they advertise so much on TV.

Maybe I'll try my luck on ol' Craigslist.

Thanks for your responses, everyone.

If it were me, I'd put it every where I could. Craigslist is nice, but like I said, I've had extremely good luck buying and selling cars on auto trader too. List it on both.

AT cost $39.95 and the ad runs 'til you sell your vehicle. They place your ad online and in your local AT magazine. If you're worried about the cost, just list your ad for $40 more than you had planned.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I will most definitely be selling my '02 Sport. It's looking like I could be moving again (to potentially teach English in Korea). Therefore I'm looking to offload my most prized possession: The '02 Sport, AKA The New Deuce.

Just wondering if any Arizona YotaTech members are interested before I list her on AutoTrader.

Asking price is $12,500.

She's black, 4x4, leather, full power w/sunroof, roof rack and has only 91,500 miles. I am the second owner. Bought it at 70,200 miles in March of 2006. CarFax is clean. No major work or repairs performed. Routine maintenance performed at regular intervals. Runs strong and A/C blows cold.

As mentioned in previous post, the vehicle does have a couple minor cosmetic flaws. Dent in right rear quarter panel from hit and run in grocery store parking lot. Dent in front skidplate from someone's hitch backing into it (have my damaged MN license plate to prove it). Never been offroaded or abused (I mostly use it around town here in Scottsdale).

PM me for more info and photos. Or feel free to email at sethwilliampage@gmail.com

so a full attack on all fronts: craigs, your local daily paper, your local weekly paper, your local little nickel paper, auto trader, ebay...print and web on all. jack your price by a couple hundred to re coup some of the advertising cost. put a sign in it and park on busy street too. if the price is already low and you're willing to deal, you should have it sold in a week.

most banks approve loans for vehicles with up to 100k so with only 89 you should have no problem.

This is good advice. I probably would have just used AutoTrader. Didn't know about the bank thing with cars under 100k. Good thing I'm still well under.

So here's another question: if I sell it, how can I trust the buyer's payment (i.e. check) is good? Anyone have experience selling vehicles 3rd party before?
