Thinking of Buying 88-89 V6 1st Gen
What should i look for?
What are the weak spots?
Was there a head gasket issue with these years like the 90' thru 95'?
Thanx for the info

can't help a whole lot on the v-6. i have a 4cyl 1st gen though, and i love it! i'm PRETTY sure they had the same issue with the head gaskets in the 1st gens as well as 2nds. but don't quote me on that.

RUST! Take a screwdriver with you and poke around ALL OVER the frame. Especially the rear half. OK, well, maybe not since your in California. But for everywhere else, rust can and will eat your frame from the inside out.

Nothing really. Just get underneath it and check the CV's for rips, make sure it tracks straight down the road, make sure the engine doesn't smoke or rattle. Make sure it shifts smoothly. Check the oil, make sure it's not black or milky. Check underneath it for battle scars and broken parts to see if the previous owner beat on it offroad. Make sure the rear window goes up and down. You might have to play with the rear window wiper to make it go down. Make sure the air conditioner works.

Yes, and it's NOT covered by Toyota's Special Service Campaign. Don't worry though. The 3.0 is an EXTREMELY reliable engine despite the head gasket problem. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. 300+k miles.
