Tensioner / Pulley belt problem 03 Runner
Hey Guys,
Still fighting this one. I've read on other posts regarding the annoying squeaking "cricket" like noise on startup in the morning. The dealer has replaced the belts but the noise returned 2 weeks later.
Does anyone else have this problem or has had it fixed? I hate going to the dealer and have it looked at it again if they don't even know what it is.
Please advise.
Thanks

my buddy is a service manager at toyota he told me that there is an incorrect bolt size on the holds the pully which allows it to slip and make that noise. For some people its all the time and for others like me its till the bolt warms up and expands to the correct size. i was told to wait a few more weeks for a fix for it.

Response from Toyota RE: Belt Squeak Tensioner problem on 03 V6 Runner
Hi all,
Toyota Corp USA called me this morning at work from the email I sent them regarding this issue Reference Number: 030606-000001.
They said that they know about this issue and will be sending out a TSB when they have found a fix for it. So I guess stay tuned.
Impulsebrklyn - I did mention about the bolt being the cause so I don't know if they took that under consideration.
We'll see.

I have a '96 and it makes the noise that I beleive you guys are talking about. The difference that I have is that it only makes the noise at startup when the temp is under 30 degrees or so. I took it to the dealer and they said that they could not figure the problem out. Sounds damn auful and is most certainly embarrassing. If somebody finds the fix I would sure like to email it to the dealer that told me to live with it.
