Taurus Fan Users, Please Report

Recently I've had the joy of experiencing the bearings in my cooling fan bracket exploding on my 1990 4-Runner. As a result I've read and re-read the Taurus fan install write up and am considering going through with this as a viable option to an OEM repair.

I just wanted to get the opinions from some of the guys that are currently running this. How is it holding up, any problems, etc. I do have two concerns, even thought I'm in Idaho it does get to be 100+ degrees here in the summer. Also, I do quite a bit of towing through the better part of the year. I carry two or three dirt bikes on a trailer. Obviously cooling is a concern in both of these situations. I'm hoping to get some feedback on how you think this will work in conjunction with the mod.

In addition, I am thinking of machining the face off of my current (toasted) bracket and eliminating the two "extra" pulleys and running shorter belts to the p-steering and the alternator. I would like to obtain another bracket with a good set of bearings so in case worse comes to worse I can go back. If you have any leads please contact me @ huffspeed@prodigy.net

If you have any other comments I would sure like to hear them. Thank you in advance for anything you have to offer.

Thanks,
Andrew

Mine seems to be fine. I installed it toward the end of summer so I didn't get a chance to drive around in 100+ weather up hills, but I did test drive it on relatively flat ground in 95+ weather. This is all while using the low setting. I've never had to use the high setting, we'll see what happens when summer comes around.

If I have my way with it I was planning on using two temp sensors to control the lo and hi fan settings (not sure what temp I'm going to use for either as of yet). Also, I was going to wire an LED or something into the hi speed circuit so it would illuminate when the high setting was in use. This would serve as a visual reminder that things were getting hot and that I'd need to watch the temp gauge, if it ever were to go that far.

Have you done any towing since the mod?

Thanks for your input.

I have mine wired so that the low setting is temp controlled, manual off, and manual high. The off setting has a LED to remind me to turn the fan back on.

No towing of any significance.
