tacoma skid on 3rd gen.

I picked up a modded tacoma skid plate off the t4r forums. Recieve the skid today. However i am unsure on how it mounts. Does it get sandwiched in between the frame and original skid plate. Or where does the extended brackets bolt up to. Becasue i am stuck

PIcs of it..

First pic on top is the skid.

i have that skid on my tacoma and it has different brackets....

these brackets mine has go between the tie down hooks and the frame. Came with longer bolts too.

The brackets drop down a few inches and the skid bolts to that. They uses both the skid bolt holes not just one....

here is a pic i took a long time ago of the tow hook...

but if you notice that bracket that is bolted between the frame and hook is the bracket I'm talking about...The metal of it looks newer and shiney, you can see the corner of the skid too at the bottom right....you can see how it moves the skid down and forward...

Was i supposed to recieve that bracket in order to mount it. Or is that bracket solely for the tacoma mounts.?

You will need everything in this picture to mount the skid plate.

On the '96-'98 models the plate bolts on fine and hugs the bumper nicely but with the '99+ "fatlip" bumper (if you have the Tacoma brackets) you will need to fabricate or have somebody make you simple retangle extender plates of with matching nolt holes on both ends and an extra set of bolts to move the plate forward about 3" so it curves right in front of the bumper.
This shouldn't cost more than $20;my friend made mine and he went the extra mile and welded the nuts onto the plates for a more secure connection.

The '02 Sport Edition Runners use different brackets specifically for the Runner but I don't like how the skidplate sets lower and and inch away from the bumper making it more likely to bump something on an approach.
My plate literally has just a couple of millimeters between it and the bottom center of the bumper and IMO it looks better;I do still remove the plate for off roading tho' since it's really a street piece anyway.

I had L brackets fabricated onto the existing bracket. It was done at a local muffler shop. Costed me $15

Heres my 3rd gen with it.

I had the brackets fabbed so the plate hugs the curve of the bumper since it fits perfectly right in the middle;I was concerned with it sticking out to much but it does show it off more with it extended further.

Thanks for the advice. The brackets are bolted with the bumper mounts.
