Tacoma Electric Fan Mod
I was about to tackle adding an 88' MR2 dual fan to my 01' 3.4L Taco. Has anyone done this with the MR2 fan successfully? I bought a Hayden variable controller 160-210. I'm wondering what other mods I'll need to adapt it.

Taurus fan is a single fan, some 1 speed, some 2 speed. The MR2 is a dual fan setup and of course needs a different way to bracket them.
Thanks. Any other suggestions?

I understand, but I thought you had some wiring questions, not mounting questions. Sounds like you are going to have to be a pioneer. Do a write up when you get it mounted up.

Remember it's 2 fans. Both on would be the same as highspeed for the Taurus. The 2 fan set has a much thinner profile. If I don't gain confidence in the set, I may concede and buy the Taurus fan.

I have a 98 TRD and the fan pulley braket bearing froze up. So I'm looking to bypass the bracket and put in a flex-a-lite 210... anyone know the belt sizes for both PS and Alt?

PS 102cm I think a 103 would also work
Alt 92.5cm I think anything from 91 to 92.5 would work
I cut down my fan bracket about 1" behind where the pullies mount using a cutoff saw. I had to remove one of the studs holding the fan bracket closest to the alt so the alt belt could clear. I plan on taking off the bracket and milling down where the nut seats and installing a bolt.
Not running a fan currently, it was around 25F last night and the temp stayed in the normal 50% position... Will probably do timing belt/water pump install elec fan and mod the old fan pulley bracket over the holidays...
I'll post some pics once I get a new reader for my camera...

I have had my Taurus fan for a month or so now with the same adjustable controller you are talking about. One thing to remember with the 2 fan setup is that only 1 works unless you turn the a/c on then they both come on.
I have mine set to the low speed and put a mechanical coolant temp guage on my dash. I have it set to come on at 185 degrees and it has never gone over 210 even when crawling up trails or in traffic.

Marc, I am running no fan right now (winter time) but I just purchased a perma cool fan from another Yotatech member. It's a single fan, I plan on putting the temp sensor in the radiator and a on(normal)/off/on 9regardless of temp) switch. I may even go with numerical temp guage.
In you pic I only see one fan, are they mounted vertically?

Tacoma--it is a single Taurus fan. It is on the low setting and works great. Good luck with the Perma cool you bought. Make sure you wire it up good--use shrink wrap so it stays corrosion free.

Marc,
Do you have the 3.0 or the 3.4L I am trying to install the taurus fan in my truck. 2002 tacoma with the 3.4. It is turning out to be a PITA. Any helpful tips will be appreciated. I am local and would love to check it out to see what you did.

Check out this thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/electric-fan-variable-speed-controller-installed-61008/
Note how the e-fan shroud was nested into the OEM shroud, some others have had over-heating problems because of poorly fitting shrouds. The "nesting" idea should take care of that problem. The FK-35 Variable Speed Fan Controller Kit looks like a great item too.

Duran I was thinking of the same setup except I just got a free dual electric fan off of an 2000 Buick Century where I worked. My plan was to have one of the fans set up on a relay to the A/C and the other side having a variable controller for the other side. The way I figured it is if it does start getting hot then I could jsut turn on the A/C switch and put the temperature where I liked it and run it that way. Hope this helps!
edit: Didn't realize it was an old post. Any updates there?

I have the taurus fan and it isn't going into the shroud. The other fan to the attached link was from a volvo. This might be a better fan for the 3.4 application. I am hitting on one of the corners of the taurus fan. It doesn't matter how I turn the taurus fan I have some type of obstruction. The shroud over the fan won't sit flat. This is still going to happen. I just haven't seen a good how to write up yet. I will do some grinding and fitting this week. Did I mention I love air tools. I'll keep you guys updated, but it isn't an easy mod, atleast not as easy as I thought. Thanks for the links and info.
