I have a 96 Taco 4x4 and was wondering if the bumper hitch would handle a trailer with 2 quads or 2 snowmobiles on it, Or should I get a proper hitch installed.

What is the tow rating of the bumper? It should be stamped somewhere.

What is the maximum weight of the trailer, toys & gear?

If the max weight is close to or over the rating of the bumper, get a hitch.

my truck is a 97 bumper ball rated at 3500 lbs trailer weight and 350 of that tongue weight and I have over loaded the hell out of it several times. I'v pulled people out with it and been pulled out with it. toyota made on hell of a bumper. two quads or two snowmobiles you it will pull fine.

I think youll be fine. I pulled a 4000lb uhaul from Oklahoma to Mississippi with mine and it did just fine. Although at that weight its good to keep it below 65...below 60 might have been wiser. But I cant think a few quads would weigh near that, assuming its a light trailer.

I would suggest a real one since you will most likely go down some rutted dirt roads, and if the front of the trailer is jacked up the back will probably scrape and get damaged on rocks and such.

At least this way you can level your trailer out.

Not that I don't think that the bumper can't but the receiver will do it better.

Well that kind of depends. When my truck was stock it wasnt too bad. A little uneven, but not enough to worry about scraping, even if I was on dirt roads. But any lift at all and yeah, it will be a problem. Its amazing how much difference 3 inches can make!
