tacoma-4runner header swap (2.7L)

Does any one know if I can use a 96-98 tacoma header in a 97 4runner, the thing that makes this tricky is that its a 2.7L engine. I know its not a direct bolt-on underneath to the main exhaust but generally I thought these two models had the same 2.7 engine set up?! So why wouldn't it work.....right?

my understanding with the 2.7 headers is that the difference between the two models are how they are attached to the exhaust. The 4runners cat is part of the down pipe, where the Tacoma has a flange in front of the cat. When you replace the manifold with a long tube header on the tacoma, you would replace the pipe in between the manifold and cat. What you would need to do is replace the cat on the 4runner with a cat for a tacoma.

But other than that, from what i've read, the header location and whatnot are the same. I did a lot of reading on this when i was working on replacing the cracked manifold on my 98.

good luck

I went with the stock manifold. Didn't see how the header would give me that much more power without doing the rest of the exhaust.
