a taco question

was the tacoma ever available in 4x4 with a regular cab and a v6? there's a pic on wheelers off-road, but i'm not sure if it was an engine swap. it says it's a '95 so i think it might have been an option briefly?

i like the look much better than the extended cab myself, maybe i'll find myself looking for one of these someday

mmm, ya I don't think it was available ever for the Reg. Taco. I also liked the reg. look better then the xcab, but I couldn't get the options I wanted with the reg. cab. Mainly the 3.4L V6, power everything, and bucket seats. So, I broke down and got a DC.

Yeah, it was ... for a short time. I saw one once at a dealership in Puyallup. I think it was a '96? There aren't many around.

A friend of mine had a 94 regular cab with the V6 and he bought it new off the lot............... we picked it up took it out and got it stuck in mud to the doors in a matter of hours. There was so much mud inside it lost its new truck smell in one day When I bought my 2001 standard cab I wanted the v6........no such thing anymore.

Just found out the V6 was an option in the standard cabs from 88 to 94. No standard cab Tacomas have the V6 unless it was swaped.

i believe there may have been a little overlap with the 3.4. there's a guy on 4x4wire who says his friend owns a '95.5 pickup(non taco) that came with the 5vzfe from the factory. i'd say it's possible...maybe toyota ran out of the 3vze and substituted them in a couple of the last pickups produced

My brother in law has a 96 reg cab V6 WITH a factory e-locker. I keep thinking he was full of it until I saw it. Also a customer of mine confirmed that before the TRD the locker was an option , and although I cannot remember the exact cost it was cheap as an option.

The guy I talked to has been in the Toyota industry for 25 years and he thought there might have been a few 95's but he wasn't sure. He thinks there might have been some non tacoma 95's that got the 3.4 but the 95.5 Tacomas didn't come with 3.4's

Not true. It's REALLY rare, but they *could* be ordered that way in the past. This topic comes up on the TTORA board about once a year and every time, someone posts photos of their standard cab, V6 Tacoma There are a few out there, but they ARE tough to find. There is one on TTORA that is the standard cab, V6, TRD Supercharger, URD fuel mods and last I heard he was playing with the bottle as well... I hear it goes like a *scalded* ape

The locker was available as an option separate from the TRD package as recently as 2001. "Nuke", one of the TTORA regional directors and one of the founders rolled his first Tacoma and got a 2001 standard cab, with the locker as an option as it's replacement. I have a copy of his window sticker somewhere, showing the locker option... I will look for it. He had to go through hell to get it ordered, but once someone ordered it, it showed up like clockwork

You can get Regular Cab V6's in 95-97 Taco's, The Electric locker was an option (not a very well known one), and as far as i know you can still get the locker without the TRD package... it's only like a $300 option

Yes. 1995.5-1996 regular cab Tacomas could be had with the 3.4. Don't know about 1997...

I've also seen 95 regular cab Toyota Trucks (old style) with FACTORY 3.4. These were the end of the production run and VERY RARE.

There always seem to be a few model-change oddballs. One of my partnera at work is driving a Tacoma regular cab v6 5sp, so they obviously made a few.

I wanted a double cab bad when they first came out. I drove one with all the extras AND a v-6 5speed. I loved it! About 6 months later I decided to buy and could not find one, and they were never even listed as available. One dealer even argued with me about it. To get a v6 5sp I had to get an XtraCab, and I didn't want one. (I actually use the backseat a lot.) So I kept my 98 F150. Pity. The F is a love-hate thing...

so much for choices eh? seems like options keep getting cut out for "standard features" like automatic transmisisons and ABS.

then again, i'm a dying breed. if i had my way, the only things with power in my pickup would be brakes and maybe steering. i'm sure it'd be much cheaper if you could still buy something like that from the factory too...

One guy I know of has swapped the 5spd into his double cab for the same reason. After selling the auto, it didn't cost much...
