taco 2wd non trd rear axle(5lug)

i am building a jumping truck out of a 86 2wd and i thought it would be aperfect swap to install my 2wd 99 taco rear(non trd) in the rear because it is 3 inches wider. the bad news, i pulled the third out of the taco rear end and tried to install the one out of the 86 which has an easy locker w/ 488s and it will not bolt up. on top of that the 86 has larger axle shafts with different spline count. does that seem a little backwards that an older lighter toy miny has a stronger rear end. where can i find out more info on taco rear and what options are available to me? thanks for any imput

if you are trying to build a jump truck then i would suggest that you get either a tundra or t100 rear end and make sure to truss it up what kind of suspension are you looking to put in the rear as well? long travel leafs or are you looking into linking it?

i was just going to run chevys with a long a$$ shackle. the truck should be fun with the 4.3 that is set back 8" and the 100 shot of nitrous. kind of a low budget builder if you know what i mean
