Tach Problem After Indigo Gauage Install

Just got through installing the reverse indiglo kit and when I turn the key on (the engine ain't running yet mode) the tach reads about 1800 rpm . Obviously something ain't right. Anyway, can anyone let me know how I can recalibrate the tach or simply adjust the needle. Waiting to hear before I open back up the dash.

Can you see if ther needle is binding against the back or bent in some manner? It sounds like it is just sticking due to something no tbeing aligned correctly. Does the Tach go up from 1800 or stay there when you are driving??

These are overlays and the tach needle is not sticking. Read the tech articles and made sure about that before dash reassembly. When the electronic tach gets juice is jumps to about 1800 rpm as a baseline. Tach appears to work properly other than that. In other words - my old "0" rpm point is now 1800 rpm. When you turn the key off the needle drops to true Zero. Thanks for the questions. All help is appreciated as I can't figure it out. Best I can guess to do is remove everything and turn the needle to 1800 - hold the tach in that place - remove the needle and reset to zero.

Low Max,

One more question: did you remove the needles to install the gauges?

Nope - did not remove the needle. The needle did take some bending when I first tried to install the overlay. Had to take a dremel and make the needle hole just a tad larger. That worked fine. Then the needle stop fell out and the needle did turn counter clockwise past the stop. I rotated it clockwise and put the stop back in (with a small plastic star washer that also fell out or the cluster). Other than that no more install problems. All the other guages work great.

Hate to revive an old thread, but Low Max did you ever get that fixed? I took out the cluster to "fix" the issue of my tach sticking at 3000 or so rpm on the new halos. Don't ask how but I accidentally removed the needle. Now I idle at about 3700 rpm... It's not so important that the tach is totally accurate as this is the first car I've had that has a tachometer so I shift by feel/sound etc. Any suggestions before i crack this thing open?

Scruff - sorry to say I've not opened up the dash since I posted to try and fix the problem. I did check all my electrical connections to make sure I did not have any type stray currents getting to the tach and that did not work. So, every time I turn the key on my tach "baselines" at about 1800 rpm without the engine running (instead of zero rpm). One of these days I will open it back up and try the manual reset. Have a good Thanksgiving.
