T -stat sealant,and or cleaner neccessary?

I'm putting in a dual stage t stat in my 86 22re, I was wondering if I could just wipe of the surface and put the new gasket on or if I had to clean it and reseal it with rtv cleaner like my haynes manual said.

You only need the gasket with the t-stat, no sealant needed:

its a good idea to clean and seal with rtv but i have gotten away with just using the gasket

Never used any sealant for the T-stat on my toy.

i put a thin film of gray rtv on both sides of the gasket just for security.
