Sylvania SilverStar Ultras installed w/Pics

There was a thread and an email or two asking for pics of these lamps. For some reason, I can't find the thread so here's a new one. Tell me, how do they compare to the PIAA lamps?

First pic is just the side markers lit. These are still stock.

This is with the headlights on low beam. (Yes, I know the side markers look dimmer compared to the first pic, but that's not so).

Highbeams.

Lowbeams on a dark road.

Highbeams on same road. (can't be seen, but I could see the trees at the end of the road pretty good with the highs on.

Those look awesome. Are you happy with them? Would it be possible to take some pictures when the roads aren't covered in snow to show us how bright they are reflecting off the black asphalt?

I'm in Alaska... I wont see black asphalt for another month or two. I'll throw that out to someone else who buys these to add their pics to this thread. I think they're worth it.

Anyone??

Those look really good, nice classy white light, and I think Elton has the right idea about the corner lights....happen to have any pics Elton?

Also, have you hooked up a multimeter to make sure your getting the full 12v to the front headllights? You might be able to get even more light with an upgraded harness.

Are the harnesses a common downfall on 4Runners (even the newer gens)? I've never checked, but I will now that you mentioned it.

So they say but I didn't notice a whole lot of difference when I upgraded my harness.

Also, I had the Silverstars but one burned out after about 8 months (even with the upgraded harness). They were not enough of an upgrade for me to justify purchasing another set so I just stuck my stock bulbs back in.

My next plan is to just upgrade to some higher wattage bulbs. I hear they provide great light output but are not street legal. I don't really care as long as I am not blinding anyone (which I will test when I get them)

I went looking for 921s. Napa was close, and I tried them... (bad move) So I tried Schuks and the only thing they had were Sylvania 921LL (nothing along the eurolight look). I think they say 16w on them so they should be brighter. Two questions:

1: Larger lamp, more wattage = more heat, right? Am I going to melt anything around it (lense, wire, plug, ect...)

2: I'm over at my Sisters house for dinner, I tried to see how the lense comes out to replace the lamp. I see the top screw, but is there another somewhere? It was getting dark so I couldn't really see, but it sure felt like there was another screw or clip or something. Where is it?

Yes, they will produce more heat, and there always a potential for melting. A common thing with 99-02 Trans Ams was to try and increase the output of the fogs by upping the bulb size, however the plastic wouldnt take the heat and would eventually melt.

Not sure if this specific upgrade will cause the same results, but it would be something to monitor for a while to be sure.

no it is just that one screw on the top and add some pressure to the lense and push out. i had problems at first to getting my old ones out when putting in some clear corners

nice lights by the way, i'm still not sure on if i should get them or stick with my luminics pure blue i just bought

I got home and put these lamps in (Sylvania 921LL). They are much better then stock, but not as pretty as yours. But for under $6 and that's all I can find around locally, I'm happy with them for now. It sure beats the $125 for Piaa lights and clear lenses that I was thinking about getting (which still may come, but not right now).

UPDATED:
Oh, BTW... Thanks Sloan on the tip to get them out. I sure didn't want to force them out and end up breaking them because of the possibility of a hidden screw.

This first shot is the driver side done, pass side is still stock.

Compare this to the one in my first thread. Big difference...

And this is all done. Much brighter and closer to the headlights. That's what I'm looking for.
