Switching out the standard temp controls with the limited temp controls.
I have a 1999 sr5 4runner. I noticed that the limited's have a nicer temp control system with an lcd screen that lets you set the exact temperature you want and all that good stuff.
I am wondering if any of you have swapped out the standard temp controls for the limited temp controls, and if so, is it just a simple swap, or are the plugs different?

I looked into it, its way too expensive for all the sensors/main unit. something like around $2k. I personally like the standard controls more, easier to use while driving (i guess this opinion is biased, as I dont want to spend $2k on my climate control, lol)

Unless you got all the wiring and ductwork from a donor truck I wouldn't bother (serious amount of work there).
It is not like just switching out the faceplate....much more involved and the systems are very different.
If you want the look that badly, sell yours and get a limited.

You may be asking for more then you imagine, but hey I have done some rather "interesting" mods. time is the biggie here if you have the donor vehicle. I would think you are going to need all the sensors, wiring harness, head unit, etc. If you have the time and inclination, I would pull the head unit from the donor vehicle, then check all the connectors coming from the head unit. I would also recommend getting a FSM that shows all the connections, connectors wiring signals etc for that particular accessory set up so you can tell if the current SR5 cables in fact carry some of theneeded wiring or if you are going to have to pull the entire wiring harness from the donor vehicle and install in yours. This will also help you to determine just how big a project this will really be. Its your truck, make it your truck! Another foot note, quite a few problems have been associated with that LED climate control system. You may be asking for a bigger headache then you realize, but I like the look too good Luck!

I was going to switch out the temp controls...I guess I won't now. I recently did a complete overhaul on my 2000. A friend of mine bought a MINTY 2000 LTD out of an auction where I live. Vehicle was very well maintained. 130km super clean...not to mention he had a "VAD" license plate "veteran" so they truck was very mint. I did the interior - leather and heat controls ect. even dropped both diff's and got a rear-locker and the 4:30 gears The nicest thing about the whole install is....that Toyota has everything pre-wired!! All the proper wiring for the diff-lock and ecu were right where they should be...very impressed saved a lot of time!
