Swing down rear tire carrier, 3rd gen 4Runner... Do-able?

was watching extreme 4x4 this morning and they were doing up some jeep with a nice rear swing down tire carrier. So it got me thinking. I've never seen this on a 3rd gen 4Runner, or even on a lot of Toyotas for that matter. Would it be do able? What are the limitations to it, downsides, upsides.. how bout some input.

I found one for a chevy that looks pretty close to, in my head, how I would get it done but thats just from looks.

The major issue I can think of is the stress on the rear that would needed to be beefed up for such an addition. Not saying I would do this to my 4Runner per say but none the less would look pretty sick if done right. I doubt I'm the only person who has thought of this but googling for a while and couldn't find much of anything for it.

Swing-down would be a total pain in the arse loading camping gear into the truck. Swing out (ideally to drivers side) would be the only way to go IMO.

Edit: it was dirtco's thread, I had the wrong one

Or google CBI off road, he makes a hitch mounted swing down tire mount, you can look at my build thread, I had one for awhile.
Like Matt said, they are kind of a pain

With my back, I'd have nightmares about lifting that monstrosity into place...

Swing out would make far more sense in my opinion.

I would love a swing out.. and I would love a swing down. I was just implying I've never seen it before on a 3rd gen and would like to. I myself wont be doing it, I rather have a swing out... it's in the works

Can't remember if you ever commented on mine or not, but I built a swing down carrier off my towing package. It doesn't look anything like the one you posted, but it is possible, and really not that much of a pain to work with....

I didn't have access to a Tube bender, so made mine out of square tubing.

BTW, the one you posted looks SICK! If you can build one that looks like that.....GO FOR IT!
