I've always been curious about rear disconnects. I would think that if you had rear disconnects then limiting straps would be a must.

There has been a lot of people who have disconnected their rear sway bars completely or used some type of disconnect and most have found very little improvement. I think Steve did some testing and found out it really didn't do much. It probably increases your chances of raming your driveline into the gas tank though.

it might just be in my head, but i think there is a noticeable positive difference from when i dont have my rear Swaybar hooked up. and i havent ran a front sway bar in a year.

Maybe its just the stuff I wheel in but I don't think sway bars will make a whole lot of difference for most moderate wheeling. I've often thought about disconnecting my front, since I don't have a rear it makes for semi-awkward handling, but I figure something's better than nothing. And those disconnects for sale are so expensive I just don't think its worth it.

My front swaybar was disconnected sometime last month by force. Both my endlinks snapped. I've been running without till I get discos and I can say I do notice a difference both on and off. It is much smoother off road at higher speeds. The bumps that shook my fillings loose now are butter. And on road it is of course tippy, which can be a little fun when others are riding shotgun.

I did some reading on this. And of course there are some instances when guys break their sway bars and the broken pieces end up in their springs. Also, there is an argument that IFS disco's are good and bad. The bad say that the sway bar distributes the weight of the vehicle more effectively because it limits the travel of the wheel.... so the weight wont be totally on one or the other wheel at one time... where as when you put a vehicle in the same situation with SA the weight is evenly distributed and sway bar disco just alllows more travel. I think the best way to go is build your own quick discos and keep the sway bars connected for improved performance on the track and disconnect them for gnarly travel... now the question is, who can respond the fastest with the link for a build thread on quick disco's front and rear on a 3rd gen runner. sorry, i'm broke! and of course the guy above me posted a good link, i should looked at what i opened for writing this... oh well

I broke my rear sway bar, so I removed it and now I have so much flex it's ridiculous...I'd get quick disconnects for the rear, not the front though

i tested my setup with and without sway bars and i got about 3 or more inches of travel increase in front and a big increase in the rear with no sway bars. i now dont run a sway bar in the rear. i tried discos in the rear but there is so much articulation that when stuffed the axle hits the sway bar on one side and jams the other side of the bar into the truck.

here are some pics of my front disconects i made. cost about 7 dollars i think. they are easy to use to.

During the time I had a broken endlink in the front, I definitely enjoyed getting a few swerves in for the tippy feeling to scare passengers. Great fun. Just cruising around backroad I'm sure I was three-wheeling much more than I realize or than was safe, so I definitely recommend disconnects over simply doing without a swaybar.

Just thought I'd through it out there.... I'm not sure how it would handle with a rear sway bar as I have never had one on my 2nd gen but it handles fine both on and off road without (no troubles with gas tank and drive line as mentioned earlier etc.) and I would almost even venture to say that it does have more travel (it only makes sense to me and i have plenty).

this is on a 4th gen. but the amount of travel you gain is very similar on the 3rd gen. i pulled a link off of mine and its never going back on

I'm disconnected front and rear. Here are my flex pics with both disco'd Keep in mind I have more travel left, front had another at least 2 inches on the compressed side. Rear had a good amount more as well.

Road manners are fun! Actually it was a bit scary at first, but now its just something I need to keep in mind when driving around. I feel that it rides better on the road.
But, before winter, I plan to get an Addco front sway bar, and Disco's. I drive like a fool in the winter, and I would NOT feel safe doing any sort of drift without a front sway bar.
