Swaped CV's, still hearing noise

I was getting a very laud metalic "klanking" "grating" noise when turning the steering wheel all the way to the left and driving. Sometimes it happend sometimes it did not, but I noticed it happend whenever I went over a bump while making this sharp turn.

I checked under the truck and noticed that the cv boot was ripped on my drivers side. So I was totaly convinced the CV's were at fault, especialy since a car I used to have made a similar sound under the same circumstances. So I went ahead and replaced both driveshafts (and outer tie rods while I was at it).

But I STILL get the same noise. I'm at a loss, what could it be?
My next best guess is the hubs, but guessing and replacing like this is going to get expencive.

Thanks for any help.

OK you guy's , How do you know it's the steering stops and what do they look like and where do I find them on a 2001 double cab 4x4 Taco? Next queston is what's involved in fixing it? Thanks, Mike

Steering stops are just that. They prevent you from turning the wheel any further than the car is capable of. It is a metal tab on the spindles that prevents you from turning. Put grease on the end of the tab and the contact location on the other side and it should stop.

I had the same problem on my old Taco. Pretty common.

Thanks for the info Mike. Now I know what I'm looking at. Mine does it but not all the time. It seems to be worse after I spend allot of time running through water. Mike
