suspention question
Hi,
I have a 91 4Runner V6 2WD. I have recently changed my shocks (front & rear). My mechanic got some Japanese gas shocks (I'm not sure what they are called, but they are white). Now my suspention is hard as a rock. I mean I feel every single little bump on the road. It handles good, but I also want comfortable ride!!!! What should I do? Is there a way to make the suspention softer?
Thanx

Only thing you can do is try softer shocks. For the best ride you're going to want bilsteins or edelbrocks. $$$
Oh, you can try lowering your tire pressure, but stay within toyota guidelines. You don't want to have a blow out on the freeway. Be aware that your mileage may suffer.

I too do not go off roading that much and decided to buy from www.shox.com. I got the blisteins for $269.80 plus shipping.

Are you sure that the ride is gonna be smooth after installing the bilsteins?? How much do mechanics charge to replace them? Is there a difference between 2WD shocks and 4WD? Cuz many sites don't offer edelbrock shocks for 2WD

How many miles have you put on them? Many shocks can take a while to break in. I would try taking on a few rough roads. After I put my Bilsteins on I would hit speed bumps and it would kill me, after about 400-500 miles they began to soften up.

After I installed my blisteins it took w while to soften up and now I have a very smooth ride. I don't know how much mechanics charge, because I changed my own. I would recommend you changing them if you can, it really is pretty easy.

Thanx for your replies!!!
I just found out that I have KYB Gas-a-shock. They have about 1500 miles on them. I also visited my local stealership today and found out that the original shocks cost $131 (taxes included)! Are they any good???? How soft are they?

Your Bilsteins softened up? Honestly?!
I have about 25,000 miles on my Bilsteins and they are still very 'stiff' in the ride department. They provide great handling and control, but they are a long way from stock(read SOFT) in the ride department.
I thought mine would 'soften' some too, but it hasn't happened. I'm actually thinking about replacing them with something else(OME medium, maybe), since 80% of my driving is onroad.
Any thoughts?

But what about the stock shocks??? Are they THAT bad? I'm not looking for some serious handling, but a comfortable city ride.

I had KYB's on my '90 SR5. I might as well have clamped the shocks solid with U-bolts to lock them up. Yep, awfully harsh, but how that truck handled!!! Very little body lean in turns!!!

shocks
I had kyb shocks on my 87 4runner .It rode like a log wagon till I put the rancho 9000 adjustable shocks on it.That way if you dont like the way it rides you can change it.The bilsteins ride nice also.I have them on my tacoma double cab.firm but smooth.Good luck.
