Surco Rack Mounting

How do you secure your safari rack to your factory roof rack (2nd gen).

On my old 4runner I had it custom mounted but my new one has the factory rack so I am going to use the surco brackets for it.

They have different styles, I looked at summit racings site and they only list the "clam on" style. Those seem sort of weak to me. The slide in channel style seemes ideal, but they don't list it for my 4runner.

How do you mount yours, where did you get the adapters and how well do you like them?

Thanks!

I had the slide rail attachments for mine, worked great, never gave out under the stress...I think the slide rails for the 3rd gens work the same, I got my Surco from Brian(waskillywabbit) and his came off of his 3rd gen and it worked perfectly.

Maybe look and see if its listed for a 3rd gen and then go with that, it worked for me.

Does your rack have a factory roof rack on it already? If it does, it shouldnt make any difference what year it is...you should be able to fit the rail attachments. Thats what I use also (on a 93). Works great, holds what you need, doesnt flex a lot, aluminum, and one time I even leaned my runner (while crawlin some rocks) against a tree on the roof rack, and it didnt even budge. I was really suprised b/c there was a lot of weight on it, but it was fine. Good rack for how cheap it was. Needs a better floor in my opinion though, but still a good rack overall.
