Hey guys, I just got my S/C in yesterday and will be putting it on this wkend. I was just wondering, from those who did it themselves, what to look out for. What will be the hardest part? Does TRD leave anything out in the instructions or not make something as clear as it should be? This is the first time I will be doing any major engine work by myself, although my dad is helping its his biggest task so far as well. About how long should we expect it to take?

One thing I found useful was to label the hoses before I disconnected them. That way I could double check the new connections as I made them.

The hose hookup can get a little confusing. This was a good method for a sanity check.

If you have the patience to skim through a search on "supercharger install" or (SC install), your question has been answered i believe in two or three threads with similiar titles (yeah, been on here too long to know!).

I believe SLC Punk (Travis) is the person who did the most recent install. Go bug him and tell him I sent ya!

Be careful not to over-torque the manifold studs on the head. 13 ft/lbs is all you need. I know this from experience, I sheared off the one closest to the firewall after I had everything together! Luckily I have a great seal on it from all the other bolts so I've had no problems with it to date.

The main thing to do is take your time. My install took about 6 hours, but I was very careful to make sure everything was installed right. Make sure you have a good torque wrench in ft/lbs and one with in/lbs reading would also be helpful (since you torque some of the bolts to 10 ft lbs. Make sure you install the TB gasket the correct way.

What year do you have? My '97 had vacuum lines that the manual didn't show. Luckly, the members here helped me figure out the lines. I had to buy additional vacuum lines and "T" fittings.

If you are planning on changing the spark plugs or wires, do it now. You will have the best access before the S/C is installed. I didn't change my plugs until after I installed it. Its do-able but it would have been easier to do it during the install. The same goes for the Thermostat. My TRD thermostat is sitting on my tool box waiting to be installed this spring. To install it I will have to take off my S/C belt tensioner. It isn't hard to do this, but like I said above, it will be easier to do it during the install.

A few things besides those that were mentioned. The power steering and AC belts are a PITA. Be patient, once you figure out the mechanism, it's not too bad, but they can be a knuckle buster. Next, installing the oil dip stick tube took me some time, it needs to be bent to fit, I had a heck of a time getting that lined up and out of the way of the belt. Make sure you installed the throttle body gasket the right way. And last, the one-way check valve, lot's of folks have missed that one.

Don't forget the cooler thermostat and plugs. Fill the tank up with 93 octane before you start the project.

Its one of the things that can help with the pinging problem that the S/C has. The 2-step colder plugs and TRD 160 Degree thermostat (according to TRD) will help with the high speed low rpm ping.
