Supercharger and Headers??

Hello one and all!
Well the time has come, (or will come in the next month) to sell the old trusty 90 2 door 4runner. I am wanting a taco v6 and am wondering about supercharger and headers. I know the supercharger is popular on the forum but I am just curious about headers. I finally have the wife talked into it. Any recommendations??? Both?

Personally, I would get the headers. They are a whole lot cheaper and will not lean out your engine like the SC. If you want serious power, get the SC and Gadget's kit (or the $1299 7th injector kit).

I would go one or the other, not both. But that's just me.

I don't know about the headers being cheaper my cost was a s follows:

1. TRD Headers: $720
2. Shipping: $32
3. Ceramic coat: $80
4. Install $240
----------
Grand total: $1072

For a few extra ponies, I payed a little over a grand. Supercharger project is running twice that right now, but it should provide for a lot more gains.

I don't regret doing the headers .. I just wish I had done the supercharger first.

I was referring to the Downey Ceramic headers and self-installation. I failed to mention that.

$450

Since you are in Utah, your truck won't ping very bad if it does at all. Mine rarely pings with my 2 step colder plugs, and I hope that the TRD thermostat will solve it completely.

Headers - fuel economy?

I read your post about you adding the headers, and was wondering if you noticed any increase in the mpg or anything. I have a 2001 4WD 4Runner, and it was getting 19 MPG on the highway. I have done the air intake elbow mod, changed the air filter to Amsoil, and ran amsoil synthetic oil through it, and it immediately jump up to 22mpg on the 1st fill up. I am leaning to doing the headers, but don't want my fuel economy to drop. any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a newbie to the forum.

Headers wouldn't drop mpg. It would increase if anything. I added headers and to be honest, only noticed alittle performance gain. Go s/c first.

Travis-
Where did you get your s/c and did you install it or have it installed?? Did your gas mileage go way down? ( i'm sure it all depends on how heavy your foot is).

I bought the supercharger from Sterling Toyota in Texas, last year they had them on sale for $1799.

I installed it in my driveway, and it too about 5 hours.

I have a pretty heavy foot. I was getting 18 MPG before and if I drive really fast, I get 16 MPG. I drive it a easier lately since I have a faster car now! So my MPG has been 17 town. When I drove it to Vegas, I averaged 18 MPG (cruise set at ~78MPH)
