OK - so I did the deck plate mod last year and now I am beginning to see threads and discussions that supercharged engines should NOT have the deck plate mod until fuel upgrades are made.

I have a supercharger, but no fuel mods. The deck plate mod seems to work just fine and I've not experienced any fuel starvation that I know of. How and when does this occur?

I also don't have any automatic transmission upgrades and everything seems to be fine there as well (though I'm planning on switching to synthetic fluid at the 60,000 mile tune up).

Should I be worried?

Some folks have experienced more ping with the deck plate open. It doesn't cause any less fuel to go to the motor, it causes too much air to be fed. If you are not having a problem, lucky you. Most of the rest of us have to run with the deck plate closed.

As far as the transmission, get a tranny cooler. Right away. Heat is the biggest enemy of an automatic transmission. More HP means more heat. The trans cooler is some cheap insurance.

Thanks for the reply. I'd hoped more folks would put their two cents in, but I'm guessing this has been rehashed on the forum too many times.

With everything stock and the deckplate in, I would go lean at 4000 rpms while at WOT and it would get progressively worse the closer I got to redline.

Check out this thread ...personal experience when I still had the runner:
If Supercharged, with deckplate Mod, make sure you have "fuel upgrades" (w/ SAFC ) or you will be running lean. Check out the graphs I came up with when using the BR2....

I have run with the deckplate both on and off, and I don't see any performance gains or losses either way.

I could have screwed up my tests, because I added the TMC1.1, then put the deckplate back in. I'll do some tests this week and post my EGT numbers.

My tests will be:

1. MAX EGT, 0-100mph w/ deckplate open, TMC1.1 set normal
2. MAX EGT, 0-100mph w/ decplate closed, TMC1.1 set normal
3. MAX EGT, 0-100mph w/ TMC1.1 set lowest setting, deckplate open
4. MAX EGT, 0-100mph w/ TMC1.1 set lowest setting, deckplate closed.

Any other ideas guys? I should be out of gas by the time this is over.

Maybe I can get my camcorder to record the tach and EGT at the same time, that would be pretty cool.

So . . . .without sophisticated testing equipment how does one know if he is 'going lean?' At WOT I seem to have the same performance as at partial throttle.

no sophisticated equipment here. The EGT will tell me if she is running hot or not, relative to other tests. I have no idea which temp is ideal, but if it gets too hot (above 1500 degrees) I know that is bad.

Dan- Any update on the runs yet? If you haven't gone yet I'm interested in knowing if your boost drops as you approach redline with the deckplate in.
