looks like im gonna be getting a nice tax return so my plans for a supercharger are being pushed ahead a little

so, my question to the collective mind is, which supercharger should I be looking to get? the older cream/tan/off white colored one, or the newer black one? is there any benifit to either? which holds up better? which one is more modifyable for more boost and or reliabilility?

I already know im going to be spending alot more to get her to fuel correctly, im looking at the URD supercharger fuel upgrade kit ($999.00), is there any other costs I should be factoring in (aside from exhaust and headers)? or is this going to turn into something of a cash sucking monster, kinda like my gun collection, always wanting and needing something new and more?

also, anybody have a hook up on cheap () superchargers?

I prefer the black (2nd gen) simply from a "how it looks" perspective. If I am not mistaken there were a few changes to the 2nd gen though; boost port, 7th injector port, and casing redesign. There might be a couple of other minor things.

Be sure to get an auto-belt tensioner (it was $60 or so) and see if you can scrounge up the nose brace too. You will be running premium fuel of course and it's always smart to run an EGT guage and good AFR unit to know exactly what you're tuning and how.

If you have an Auto trans you will need a valve body upgrade ($700 or so). If you have a manual, you may need a clutch depending on the condition of your current pressure plate/disc/flywheel ($500). Those prices are installed by you.

So, in summary, $1500 or so for a used SC'r. $1000 for fuel/timing upgrade kit. $700 - $1000 for tranny or clutch upgrades. EGT/AFR, $300 or so. Add $.20/gal for premium fuel too.

Oh, and if you get a used SC'r, you might need to get it rebuilt depending on its condition. That will run you about $700 if you have it done at Magnuson like I did...

......ask Midiwall, it ain't fun to swap out trannys.

The IPT VB upgrade is actually more like $525 + shipping, but lots of guys pay $$$ extra for express shipping.

The 2nd gen supercharger is the one to get if you can afford it... It has increased flow and design over the 1st gen and also a nice powdercoated black finish! Go big or go home!

dont have to worry about a valve body upgrade as its a 5speed, clutch maybe, but I can wait til mine goes south before I replace it.

Ah, then you're set besides the fuel upgrades, but like Christian mentioned, an EGT sensor will also be very helpful to ensure you have your piggyback controller set and all is working properly. If you have very high combustion temps (even for a short time) you can seriously damage the pistons and other engine parts. The EGT will tell you when you're in the red zone so you can shut down before doing any damage.

Other than that I agree to get a 2nd gen S/C (black one) and the URD fuel upgrades (better option than the 7th injector IMHO) to go with it. Sometimes you'll see an entire used setup come up for sale on eBay (S/C and URD) but you need to keep an eye out since they aren't very often.

Shipping will depend on where you are and of course how fast you want it. With my truck belly up, I paid $35 from Seattle to NJ via USPS. I told them "slow boat" for the ride back, and that was still $30 via UPS. Then don't forget to add the cost of 5-7 quarts of tranny fluid for the re-install.

How much more boost... Im running 11 as an every day driver on my second gen and with my alcohol injection, i can safely run 15 if i could upgrade my other hardware to take it every day!
