Why is 353HP and 16.0 seconds in the 1/4 mile not adding up to me?

I did, thank you. It looks like no TJM for me thanks to this 97 I am attempting to sell. I thought it would sell right away for a good price, but the mileage thing is scaring people away, thus I keep dropping the price. I will let you know if anything changes. Thanks man.

Priced at $48,336 we'd take the 353hp 4Runner over the Cayenne any day, just as it took the quarter-mile crown from Porsche's bullet-fast Cayenne S. That's right, Four Wheeler has a new winner in the fastest-accelerating-4x4 sweepstakes.
Fastest-accelerating-4x4 sweepstakes?
The Cayenne is also available in a twin turbo V8 trim with a low 14 second 1/4 mile.

Good point....isn't the cayenne turbo the fastest SUV made? VW made some special Toureg for Europe only and it was still slower.

Read his numbers on his CarDomain page:

Bragging Rights

Quarter Mile: 14.6 s @ 94 mph

0-60: 6.3 s

Est. Horsepower: 300

Weight: 4400

Then look at his poll:

my poll
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question: HOW MUCH "WHEEL" HORSEPOWER SHOULD AN AWD SUPERCHARGED 4RUNNER PUT DOWN?
a. 260-280 WHP
b. 250-260 WHP
c. 240-250 WHP
d. 300+ WHP
e. 228.3 WHP (ACTUALLY PUT DOWN THIS) SUX SERIOUS A$$!
f. SUE THE SH!@ OUT OF TRD????

Price as tested $48,336. Holy crap! I paid $30K for my '04 V8 SE. I hope they got some real good bells and whistles for that extra $18K, which, will probably work out to more like $25K with 5 years of interest payments added on!

Damm, $48k for that rig is to much. I paid $35000 for my 4x2 SC 4runner, figure another $5000 for a 4x4.

don't know...

the ML55 has a 0-60 of 6.4 and the X5... well read for yourself...

...BMW claims the 4.6 will accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in less than 6.5 seconds. In comparison, Mercedes claims a 6.4-second time for the ML55 to reach that speed. So straight-line performance between the two is a wash. BMW, however, says that the X5 4.6is "will exceed 149 mph" while the ML55 tops out at 144 mph...

and the cayenne turbo...

i really still dont get why people care about acceleration and top speed in an suv.

beyond adding an s/c to a 3rd gen or something, i dont see why you need so much boost as to get to 60 in under 7 seconds.

id love to have a few more horses if only to make the truck perform better on the highway.. but im not looking to drag race it or enter a top speed contest.

I'm not much of a speed buff when it comes to SUV's but I gotta say it's pretty cool to just tap on the skinny pedal and feel it just move instantly

i drove my dad's friends cayenne (not S or Turbo, just regular), and its a very smooth, quick suv.

i noticed it corners well and feels quite sturdy, not to mention it drives more like sport sedan.

but really given the room inside and the characteristics, id rather own a 5-series. yes, the cayenne has more room, but not enough to be THAT useful to anyone buying one.

call me crazy, but id rather have a vehicle's body style do what its supposed to rather than having it be overloaded.. ie, a sports car or sport sedan for speed, an suv for utility and offroading.
