Question Sunroof install..

I am going to be installing a sunroof sometime soon, and I am curious.. where would be a good place to find one? I'm not sure whether I want electric or manual.. but I'll decide that later. I'm sure I'll just end up doing manual to make it a lot easier. Thanks

Growing up when I was younger in the Seattle area, there were all kinds of custom shops who did installs or sold you kits to put one in.

I'd go manual for ease of use.
The kits comes with a template that shows you exactly where to cut and all.

Or you could go rag top like Chris did here.

I had "Ideal Accents" put a power drop down sunroof in mine by ASC. I heard horror stories of aftermarket roofs leaking, breaking, liner coming out...well they are true - BUT!!! The ASC has a lifetime waranty on leaks and like a 10 year waranty on everything else. Paid $800 installed for mine. I like it, but the liner has just ripped again...so I have to bring it in to be fixed.

Next vehicle will come with a factory sunroof...

I had one installed this past summer, dropped the map lights in while the headliner was open.
The manuals are easier, cheaper and parts are much less expensive if you crack it or when the seal goes. I researched the possibiltiy of swapping in an OEM sunroof for my 89 4runner and in the end it was not even close to being an option.
Lemme upload some pics, will link later.

That looks sweet.. although I want a sliding one that can go completley back. Would that fit on an '86 do you think? How much was it?

You can get the one that will hang over the back edge of the cab on the outside, but that is exponentially more expensive. Not worth it to me.
This one has two levels of regular pop up opening, and it comes out altogether for a fully open deal. Glass is very lightweight, tinted, easy to work, no leaks so far. I am entirely satisfied with it. My only comment is that it isn't flush on top but cloase enough, that's another big dollar thing.
I'm the webmaster for the custom shop that did it, so was not a money thing, but exchange of services. I think it would cost $250. The electric ones were like $500 min.
Make sure your actual installer is experienced, not the owner or the sales guy, the guy who is actually going to cut a hole in your truck. This would be the exact same one you would put on your 86, the spot is identical other than yours is blue.

#^$&^%#*$&^%#$&^$# PEOPLE.

I install my own stuff. rofl.

Anywho - can I see a sample of your work? I am a webmaster myself.. you can see my sites @

The new layout - http://www.thestreetscene.com/bb/index.shtml

http://www.ronniehultsracing.com - still being completed.

$250 isn't bad at all. Sense it is detachable, that would be absolutley fine with me. Would be really cool.

1st Gens can't get the big sunroofs, the cab is too small. But that's okay cuz we're convertible.
I don't do websites pro anymore, I found that general IT consulting and webmastering were two separate fields and my clients always had to have things immediately for their websites, which is simply not possible if I'm booked. The installers site that I did is in regular ole Frontpage, here but I do about all their computer stuff, small business support type and they hook me up from time to time.

If you are confident with the install, morepower to you, but there's some details in tucking it in right that you may have to do over. Don't bother with the electric, regular ole pop-out is fine. If you install it will be cheaper still, maybe $100+? Where can you buy one?
