Suggestions for Auxillary Lighting on a 98 SR5 4Runner?
Hey guys, got a question here for you all: 
I have a 1998 4Runner SR5 4x4 and i am interested in getting some auxillary lighting for it. i would like to go towards some type of driving/long-range light, mainly as i do a lot of night drving when going hunting and coming home from college. i would also like to have only to of them, and try to mount them without buying some expensive light bar, as that would keep the cost down. i don't want to spend the kind of money it takes to have HID auxillary lighting, but i definitely don't want to be a cheapo. Any help will be greatly appreciated...

I like my hella 500's they do the job for me. And are only 49.99 at offroad warehouse. If i was going to do something above these i would do some Hella 4000's with euro beam.

hey guys, thanks for the info. 
those hellas definitely sound like a good deal. when you say $49.99, is that per light, or is it for a two-light kit with the harness, as i would like to buy the kit instead of piecing it together. and are the hellas considered driving or long-range lights, as i plan to wire whatever lights i get so they will come on with my high beams, b/c of the night driving i talked about earlier. and if anybody else has suggestions on other light or these, please chime in...

the hella 500's is for the complete kit. harnesses brackets switches 2 lights.. the whole nine pretty much to get you set up. im asking for 2 pair for christmas

I dont have any experience with the Pro-comps.
I love my KC Slimlites, they light up the night nicely and come with a 23 year warranty. That warranty includes the bulbs too! They aren't 49.99 though, they start at more like $140 for the slimlite series. If you went with the good old fashion daylighter series which basically work the same they are just a little bulkier, I think you can pick those up for around $100.
I have had mine for a few years and couldn't be happier with them, I put a set on my girlfriend's Wrangler too and again couldn't be happier!

alright, i'll definitely remember that just in case i need some help. the kc websire has some nice articles on wiring diagrams and stuff, as i'm planning on wiring them so they will come on with my high beams. d his sound like a good iea, as far as wiring them goes?

cool, cool! yeah, i wanted 'em wired in with the high beams b/c when i'm on those long trips, which are mostly at night on those little two-lane county roads, and i'm approaching another car, having to turn off my high beams and a switch would be a little troublesome. and that's a good idea with the kill switch, as i'll probably include one of those also. thanks!
and btw, how much farther did you increase the distance you can see over your high beams, just wondering...

The KC hilites website should give a distance based on the style of light and bulb.
The kit comes with a toggle style switch and relays for you to wire into the high beams. You shouldn't have a problem, just make sure you choose the right wire for the high beam and not the low beam!

haha, not the low-beam wire, gotcha! LOL! but once again, thanks for that info, as every bit helps. and the titanium series were the exact same ones i was looking at, and it definitely sounds like they're doing the job you want them to do, so that just makes me wish i had the money for them right now even more...lol! but i'm definitely gonna go with the KCs now! thanks!

I had the Pro Comp lights on my old 2nd generation and they were fine-I had the 100 watt lights in a 6" size and other than the kind of cheesy looking plastic covers I thought they worked great. As long as you don't get the 'stainless steel' version- they were very affordable-I think about $28 each light-no switch or wiring included. But I have had Hella's before and they are quality units as well. Personally I am not seeing the need for auxilliary lighting as my 3rd gen lights are literally night and day improvement over the 2nd generation's standard headlights (my 3rd gen is a 99) but I do not drive at night all that much and mostly in the city limits.

yeah, these little county roads i drive on at night aren't in the best of shape, and i also have to watch out for deer. but yeah, the 3rd gen lights are pretty good as far as the high beams, as long as you upgrade the bulbs, but i still want more light for those 4+ hour trips home in the dark...but thanks for the info on the procomps. i really wish i had the money to buy some of their 9-inch HID units, but that might be a little bit overkill...
