Lightbulb Subwoofer and Amp Recomendations...

I am looking for a 12" sub from a reputable manufacturer.

It will be placed in a sealed box in the rear of a 97 runner. Advice on said box is welcome as well. Goal price for the sub is at or under $150 and I am willing to go E-bay.

Also an amp to power said sub. Probably at least 250 watts at 4 ohms, 500 at 2. Preferably a monoblock amp. Goal price for the amp is at or under $250 and I am willing to go E-bay.

I have experience with MTX stuff, but am willing to entertain other vendors. Listener enjoys alternative, popular and some rap music. Strong Bass guitar sound and drums are main sound emphasis.

Thanks gents,
Adrian

all i gotta say is.... JL audio...

12w6v2 sub

with a JL 500/1 amp.... the ONLY way to go.. best sound quality...

it is pricey, but you will get what you pay for....

i've seen a lot of setups and this one is quite nice.

for 250 you might as well not get anything.

JL is the way to go!

Amps are another story. Any good 'ol one is cool I personally have a real old amp myself so I'm way behind the times...
(Phoenix Gold M44)... for those who know what that is

I am actually running a 10w3 in a sealed JL made box with an older Rockford Fosgat 125.2....New Rockford is not so good. But I got this stuff for around 300-400.

The Amp was 150 Used and the sub I bought at a store for around 250.

If you like tight defined bass, this setup is great for the money.

Make sure you got lots of good CLEAN power for Sealed boxes though. Around 300RMS would be enough.

I agree JL subs are definetly the best, I have 3 10'' W0's and they are awesome. The W0 has a great amount of bass and sound great, but if you're looking for better sound quality W3's are awesome. I think you would be very satisfied with a 12W0 and a good amp. I wouldn't necessarily try to get a JL amp, they are very good amps but they are way too pricey in my opinion if you're not trying to win competitions. I would say find a 250-400 watt Rockford amp. Their subs suck, but their amps are very stout. I would also look into a small amp for your door speakers; this will greatly enhance your sound quality.

I see you trying to keep it around $250.00. That is a tough one but if you want quality I give you a few recommendations that will get you in the ballpark.
As far enclosures you should be able to pick up a decent enclosure at you local auto stereo shop and make sure it is made from ¾” or thicker material.

Subwoofers:

Kicker Comp VR 12 D2, Dual 2ohm voice coil wired for a 4 ohm load
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39777

JL Audio 12 WO, Single 4 ohm voice coil.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39776

Both are very good for under $100.00.

Amplifiers:

Orion XTR 375.2, 375 watts at 4 ohm.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=18796

Rockford Fosgate bd500.1, 300 watts at 4 ohms.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=18797

JL Audio Great amps but not in you price range.

I’m currently running two Comp VR 12’s with an Orion 500.2 XTR. They actually make my steering wheel shake up and down.

BTW I’m just using the links as examples and I’m not selling any of these items.

Hope this helps?

Hey Adrian-

I don't know if you remember the sub box that I have in the back of mine, but it is for a 12" single enclosure with a trapezoidal x-section, and the angles fit the angle of the backseat perfectly. I purchased it from Summit Racing a few years ago, but I couldn't tell you if they still have them. It was pretty inexpensive, too, around $50, and made from 3/4" mdf. I'm just running a Pioneer 12" woofer, but I don't have a model number...its a few years old, too. It was about $100 for the woofer. Let me know if you want me to dig up more specs for ya.

Cheers!

Thanks Gents.

I have an MTX 6500D and a pair of 12" Blue Thunders. The subs are old, but the amp is new. The recommendation is for my bro's truck.

The prices are only approximate. He would like to keep it in that range as he is a poor high school kid.

What about Infinity Kappa Perfects? A 12" 4 ohm DVC wired in parallel ought to be pretty tight, eh?

I will further investigate the current options and hope to hear some more.

My bro is not looking to win competitions, merely sound crisp and feel tight. Heart fibrilation is optional.

Thanks for the offer Jayson. Either I will be building the enclosure over break, or a local shop will be doing it.

How about a Solobaric L7?

The JL stuff in the link was pretty cost effective.

Is the difference between $100 and $150 appreciable?

i got a 12" kicker solobaric square. it really hits hard even though it's being pushed by a rockford fosgate 500a2 amp. def get a rockford or kicker amp since there always underrated so u get more bang for the buck.

The goal prices I listed were $150 for the sub and $250 for the amp.

The purpose is only to add bass. The components speakers will be upgraded as money permits.

Thanks.

hah

For $250, you might be able to pick up a pair of decent computer speakers and hook em up to a walkman or somethin....that would sound alright....basically, u cant get a decent system for that much. You would be lucky to get a couple subs for 250 bones.

I paid more than $250 for my Klipsch ProMedia computer speakers.....

Kicker has always been a good brand with good bang for the buck. I have a Kicker Comp Freeair 10 that I used to replace a blown 10" bazooka tube driven by a Precision Power 2x75 amp putting 300w in mono. It does pretty good but I can no longer recomend PPI, they sold out. 8 years old and still going strong. All those cheaper brands didn't last. You get what you pay for.

Go with Kicker and you'll be happy or spend some more money and go with JL Audio. I'll be upgrading to JL Audio speakers, amps and subs when I get my Runner and a Alpine MP3 head unit. You gotta pay to play.

Oh yeah and don't put any stupid stickers on your car to advertise and you will keep your stuff alot longer.

I'm not trying to start anything or come off as a complete Richard Cranium, but did you read anything at all the others have posted? He only wants to add a amp and sub to an existing system...something easily had for less than $350-400 total.

I am starting to question the literacy of the people here.

For $400, which is a decent amount of money for someone who is not competing and only wishes to add bass to a daily driver, I did get quite a decent set-up.

No kidding you can't get much for $250, that is not the question.

$400 is not the budget for the whole sytem, just an amp and a sub.

Am I retarded, or is that not at all clear in any of my posts?

For $250, I can get an MTX 8100D rated at 800 watts RMS for 2 ohms.

For $135 I can get an MTX 8000 12" DVC to take all that power.

No kidding on the stickers.

Is this any good?

Yeah that would sound alright for the price paid....but just a suggestion, have you considered a power capacitor to help with those 800 watts?
