stuck driveshaft

stuck driveshaft
i haev a 91 yota p/u v6 4x4....
im trying to drop my rear drive shaft. i started with the 4 bolts holding the rear drive shaft to the pumpking flange. i unbolt all 4 (which were pretty loose) and try to pull the shaft away from the diff.
after 10 minutes of pulling, slight hammering, and lots of kicking... it wont budge! wat the hecK? neone else experience this? im going to shoot it with some PB Blaster and let it sit and have a go at it 2morrow.
ne ideas?

Hit it lightly with a rubber mallet. It will come off. Reason it's tight is due to the twisting motion of the drive shaft when it's turning and tends to push into the pinion flange.

put it in drive and lay the hammer down. j/k That would fix that problem, but it might create a few more. i would just use some blaster or wd-40, then use the rubber mallet or plastic hammer.

mean drive forward/backward a bit so that it twists off the flange? i was thinking about doing that... i dont think it would really damage anything. i tied a strap around the drive shaft to the bed floor so if it would fall it wouldnt falll to the ground.

i wasnt planning on driving fast. just slowly creep forward. i have a strap looped around the shaft so it will hang once it is free. but i will avoid having to drive it loose. ill try the chisel!

btw, put some grease before you put it back in. It'll come off a little easier next time....
I had to remove my d-shaft a few times to see where the noise came from....end up getting a new d-shaft with double cv....had it extended...balance was wrong, take it out to have it balance again.....

guys, i was just kidding about driving it to get it loose. But if you do try that, put the truck in 4x4, then hold your foot on the brake and put it in drive. When the truck slips into gear it should pop loose...if you're in an auto truck. if you didn't have it in 4x4 in an auto truck, then the d-shaft would turn as fast as the engine could turn it at idle speed when it breaks loose. That would sling it all over the place and break stuff. maybe i'm just sounding stupid so i'll shut up now.

ok got it out!
here's what i did:
i un bolted the shaft from the center carrier... put a chaulk on the front wheels and started her up. i have a manual so i put it in first and slowly gave it gas while slowly engaging the clutch. i bounced back and forth off the chaulk a few times, but it finally gave wat at the center carrier. I had a tie down supporting the shaft so it wouldnt fall. I then just pryed the shaft off the diff flange. not too bad at all! it think it was just rusted on.
i took it in today to the drive line place and they said the center carrier was shot, probably b/c the double cv joint was bad AND it wasnt extended for the 4" of lift it came with.
instead of fixing the double cv, hes going to cut it off, extend it, put a normal u joint on and replace the center carrier. $260 out the door.
