All I have to do is push my t-case lever out of 4 Low. Done with foot on the brake. I only have to depress the botton on the lever to get it into 4H or 4L...

So you haven't driven it since you put the replacement in? Check that you installed the shifter correctly. If you remove the shifter, make sure that both shift rails are all the way forward and then reinstall the shifter, you'll be in 4wd high. Then simply shift it to 2wd and you should be golden. Remember the rails have an interlock so they can't both move at the same time, the left rail is (from front to rear) high-neutral-low and the right is 4wd-2wd.

Disclaimer - this is for a manual tranny, not 100% sure the auto transfers are the same....

My transmission guy ( qualified ) put the used tranny/trasfer in for me and he tells me it's stuck in 4 wheel low, I haven't driven it yet.. Today for sure... Unbelievable stress on this, the used tranny place will give me another for a defective unit but I could go on like this for years, each time paying the labor as I am not a qualified mechanic.... Arrrg,,,

Thanks for all of your knowledge,

Oh has anyone heard this before....

Because there are slight differences in rotation speed between the front
and rear axle (even if they are using the same gearing), and tires don't
easily slip on dry pavement, the axles/drivetrain may wind up binding,
which can keep you from disengaging 4WD, cause excessive wear, and possibly
damage to the system.

If the system binds, pull over to the dirt off the shoulder when it is
safe, and back up 30 feet or so. This should allow you to shift out of 4WD.

I hope this is the case...

Thanks again,
CC

This is correct, but you'll usually only see it if you try to turn while in 4wd on pavement. If it binds, STOP! Back up slowly while turning ever so slightly to relieve the tension and keep trying to shift out of 4wd until it comes out.

Thank You

Well the verdict is in and that is the case, tranny guy says he knows this trick and tried it 50 times with no success. I was able to get it out though, ( Thank Goodness ) back and forth, back and forth, in and out of low and high.. What a relief.. Thanks Everyone!!
